A tempting thought, Brotherhood, which has its attractions, I'll admit.

However, although I have never seen a footballer's contract, I suspect that the level of fines for various misdemeanours is probably governed by some 'Test of Reasonableness' beyond the words in the contract themselves. I'm sure that some financial penalty can be imposed if, say, a player misses training, but I'm equaaly sure that it could not be as high as 200% of his weekly wages.

It's Blair's Britain, Brotherhood. Send 'em up chimneys, that's my view.

Hi Guy's

I think a maximum of two weeks wages is permitted under the guidelines of the contract, after that it all depends on the player, if he decides to turn up he should get paid and if he still refuses to train a further fine can be administered.

Of course there is nothing that stop the saints requesting that he turns up for training every day.

Ciao Mancini, caro. Grazie.

On a serious note, does a 'typical' part-time player's contract not specify the number of training sessions in a week, then? I picture that it says something to the effect "It is agreed that the player will play for the club whenever he is selected, injury excepted, and will attend the club training sessions which are scheduled for once/twice/thrice each week", or whatever.

The odd occasion when they are pulled in for a few hundred press-ups and a 10 mile run apart, the manager can't call a player in, say, every evening, surely?

Heh heh. That's just the sort of contract that should be more commonplace. "You will do exactly as I say, with no debate, and if you don't like it, you can do the other thing, but I've got you by the cojones either way."

The club Ferrari wont be much consolation, then.
