He was stinking out the 'A' Block at Northwich so you were not the only one who suffered.

Whats all this on the Northwich forum about "elbows", "lucky to keep 11 on he pitch" and "dont like the way they play the game"?

It honestly doesnt sound like our normal style?

They're probably referring to some robust challenges from Quinn, who picked up his sixth booking of the season, and an elbow from McCarthy while jumping for a header that didn't look malicious but could have resulted in a red card on another day.

A hard-fought victory, but it's vital to grind out results sometimes if our league position is to be consolidated, and there's something strangely satisfying about winning when not playing at our best. A win, perhaps, to make those complaining about what a 'waste of money' travelling away is reconsider.

Admittedly, it could have been more comfortable had MacDonald and Sodje put away two excellent early chances, but ultimately the second half mainly consisted of us clearing the ball back to the opposition and being unable to put too many good passing moves together. That said, although we were hanging on a bit, Northwich created few actual chances.

The big disappointment, though, was the away support. That just 25 hardy souls managed to turn up to support a Fleet team still in the play-off positions in late November for the first time is pretty baffling.

ALmost agree with JC`s summary.

Quinn just doesnt do it for me in midfield. Maybe a good player to have on the bench to come on and break play up , but he is becoming a liablility with his challanges.

Sacha also goes in a bit heavy at times , though it has to be said that yesterday , he put in a few good challange sup the pitch resulting in us winning the ball.

The challange from McCarthy didnt look that bad from where I was standing (AT back of the terrace) but I know you were behind the goal and would have seen a different angle, Obviousley something happend as a yellow was shown.

ALthough we played competantly in the first half , it worries me that Lance`s kicking isnt the greatest and late on in games he gives possession away too cheapley. I also have concerns with Goalkeepers taking free kicks so far up the pitch . One day , he will mis kick it to an attacker and be 40 yards of his line.

As regards the away attandance. All I can say , is that the away travel is fun , realiable (if minibus doesnt get blocked in) and with Sat Nav Sally throwing a paddy when we have to make emergancy stops for the little ones (and old one) can make a fun day out.

It is a shame that Ricketts was injured as it would have been hard for Quinn to get back into the side which played so well against Oxford.

It is not easy to work out the best midfield combination from Opinel, Long, Debolla, Keeling, Slatter, Ricketts, Coleman, Quinn, Anderson and Purcell but it is a better problem than not having enough.

Personally I think that Ricketts, Debolla and Long are too good to leave out and Keeling gives us a lot more edge going forward which leaves six players chasing one place.

Unfortunately the game being four days away from pay-day. And a rather expensive month for away games including Morecambe, was the reason for my absence. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />
