I thought it was seven.

Doesn't alter the fact that if a game is stopped after so many players have been sent off that the referee has to end it, the FA normally hold a full investigation against the club concerned.

(Well ! It gives 'em summat to do, I spose !)

I remember hearing of an international match from a couple of years ago when Portugal played Angola. Angola had 4 sent off then a player went down with an injury with 20 minutes or so left. Match was then abandoned.

From last seasons Surrey FA Handbook which has the laws of the game in it -- Law 3 says that a match may not start if either team consists of fewer than seven players. Decision 1 by the international FA Board states Subject to the over-riding conditions of Law 3 the minimum number of players in a team is left to the discresion of the National Associations. The board is of the opinion that a match should not CONTINUE if there are fewer than seven players on either team.

I know the ruling for Dorking Girls in the Surrey Womens Leage states that there must be a minimum of EIGHT players at the start of the game. It can be reduced to seven by injury or suspension. If it falls below seven, then the game must be abandoned.

Probably applies to Surrey fella's as well.
