Kevin Dobinson & Ollie Berquez

Recommended Posts

Why did we sign these players if they do not seem to have a hope in hell of getting in the team? I'm not saying that they are bad players, but they seem to be harshly overlooked on a regular basis. Dobinson has come from being Chelmsford's captain to playing in our reserves, and wasn't even on the bench for our Bryco Cup game v Hitchin. I've just got back from seeing Ollie score a hatrick against Witham first team for the reserves, yet Bertie Brayley is the one who makes the substitute appearances (I know he can't replace Boylan!) I recognise the benefits of having a large squad with depth and ability, but if they aren't going to get first team football then why don't we let them move on? The last thing we want is for the spirit within the team to be ruined by players being made unhappy.

To justify this comment to anybody who disagrees outside of the discussion board, Ollie has only played 55 minutes of football from a possible 4 games, on average 13 minutes 45 seconds per game. All of these came as a substitute, the longest he has played in one game being 23 minutes. As I can not see him playing much more than this, maybe the question should be why did we sign him in the first place? Will he be content with 15 minutes of football a game? It would be ridiculous to replace Boylan the way he is playing, and if we signed a striker then maybe it should have been somebody that can come on as a sub for Greggors and head the ball. Squad rotation is not the answer, so I simply wonder why this has been done unless we plan on releasing Bertie Brayley. Had he have been a lesser player then maybe this is understandable, but as he is a player of some quality then I think it will be hard to keep everybody happy and win games at the same time.

I think the whole squad size/rotation issue has been a major issue at Canvey this season. We signed a number of players pre-season who weren't up to the job, i.e Dozzell, D. Gregory, Jones, Crow, Greygoose??? etc.., and this caused a massive amount of disruption to an already very capable squad. The result saw Jeff never being able to play a settled team and then constantly trying to sign new players to compensate for problems developing in the team. Recently the team seems to be sorting itself out, most fans can name 8 or 9 guarenteed starters for each game. The important thing to do now is for Jeff to concerntrate on a squad of say 18 players for the final push this season and to start next season with a very solid settled team. I beleive that the like of Dobinson, Berquez, Brennan, Crow, Jones, D.Gregory, are good players who should never have been signed and we should look to release these plus one or two others as soon as we can. We will then have a very strong squad in which all the players know that they have a very good chance of being involved each week and that is easily good enough challenge for the ryman league.

I do not believe we have experienced rotation this term but managements selection of the team they believe can do the job

That thinking has changed a few? times

Fat Boy Fat yours are very strong words back them up and lets see the team you would choose and why

The why I have in mind is exactly how do we get back to Canvey football

How do we trigger Canvey football

I would go forward with a squad of:

Potter, Harrison, Ward, Cowan, Johnson, Chenery, Duffy, Kennedy, Minton, Ruhanen, Parmenter, Lee, Bennett, Forbes, Prothoroe, Boylan, Gregory, Brayley.

I must also say I'm not a big Brayley fan, great ability but all one foot and little effort, and think we would be better suited with tall strong forward on the Bench who can replace Gregory over time. I would also like to see a strong holding midfielder, hopefully Ruhanen can do the job I guess we'll just have to wait and see how he settles in.

My prefered line up would be:

GK: Potter

CB: Ward

CB: Cowan

CB: Chennery

RWB: Kennedy

LWB: Duffy

HM: Ruhanen

RCM: Prothoroe

LCM: Minton

CF: Gregory

CF: Boylan

SUBS:

Harrison

Forbes

Bennett

Brayley

Parmenter

I think this line up give us a very solid back line, wing backs who are good at the back and very dangerous going forward, a midfield that can play the ball around nicely (I prefer seeing Prothoroe being given freedom to attack more) as well as not being scared of getting stuck in. The forwards speak for themselves, quality.

Very reasonable selection Fat Boy Fat

For me at least two of your subs would not suit having failed to ever give 90 minutes

One other you would demand stern defence from when under pressure and he actively dislikes defending

and because I think your side will struggle to play football from the back maybe other changes

BUT

It goes to prove that this squad could produce several top class sides in the opinion of us mere mortals

For me (and you) its important now that a settled tight squad that can cover all positions sees out the rest of the season and possible success somewhere

Agree with your comments. Would stick with Forbes in the 16, I think he warrants it on commitment and effort to get fully fit, there's also not doubting his ability if and when he starts performing close to his best. Also agree maybe one or two of the midflied/WB don't like defending, that puts the responsibility for my team on Ruhanen to cover. Don't know if he's suited to that yet. Was also a close call for Johnson or Chennery.

people seem to be forgetting about Spencer Knight. I know he has been out for a long time, but he must still be rated as one of our most exciting players. Hopefully he will be fit again soon and challenging for a place in the team. He gives us that extra pace that sometimes we have lacked this season

Canv if you look at FBFs squad for the rest of the season it only has four defenders, two injuries and you have a major problem

Of course the harder you look the easier it is to pick "your team" but the more difficult it is to balance the squad

We need a player or more in each section of the team that can start moves off in the Canvey manner
