I remember many years ago when Enfield FC were playing Dulwich Hamlet one of the Dulwich players booted a ball with such force in the warm up that it knocked an Enfield FC Supporter clean out. What made this even worse was that Dulwich had no First Aiders at all in the ground. It was left to the Enfield Physio to look after the poor lady.

By the way, this lady was not staning behind the goal. What made it even more ironic was that she was a relation of the Enfield Mascot that day.

Players "warm-up" to ensure there is no early pulling of muscles or other avoidable injuries in going from cold to playing.

What happens at half time is a kick-about and not a warm-up.

When a player is told he is to start straight after half time then he is to carry through the full warm-up.

So where does that leave us in the question of shooting at goal during the subs kick-about?

1. There is every possibility a sub will pull a muscle or damage a tendon in kicking in to goal before a full warm-up. (Does happen)

2. The subs have no idea what the manager is saying to the team at half time and is isolated from any motivational or tactical discussion.

3. Those subs left on the pitch at half time should do no more than relaxed passing & keepy uppy.

Managers should consider taking subs into the team talk and subs should only work with trainers or physios at the break.

More chance of getting sh.1.t.e from a rocking horse.

Next Saturday at every non-league game in the UK subs will be shooting in to goal at half time.

Well said.........Pabird, I totally agree with you....This needs to be addressed.....all the subs need to know the tactics of the manager...They may be called on.....It would be such a waste to pick up a injury because of a little knock about.....Why does this happen??????????

It’s a wider issue than covered in these postings.
At the start of this season it took an in-depth rollicking from management and senior players for the ex-reserve team players to understand that to move on to first team football players they had to be focused for 90 minutes and tougher than reserve football had conditioned the young minds previously.
John has been superb in adjusting or allowing senior players to have their say in assisting that adjustment.
To move any potential further forward we may need to look beyond the time commitment that is possible from first team management and treat the players to coaching in body care, team physiology, psychology and all the other issues now attended to by any successful business.
It would of course be a step beyond the norm for teams at our level! So! why not? We already have qualified people at the club and in fact in the team who could extend the learning curve of the players and as a result the eventual performance of those players.
We would be seen as the team to play for and the club to be associated with in the development of a young players career.

i have seen premiership payers doing the same thing at half time, it could be considered that team building and bonding is as important as any other form of training. by having a little kick about at half time the player will be warming up slightly (none of the players are taking full on shots they are just playing) and will increase their moral.
