So what was the Harrow score?

Two words to sum it up.

CHRIS WHELPDALE!!!

Immense in my opinion.

And what a fantastic third goal from Rikki B.

Strange team selection with no Elder or Flack but it worked so well done all. Two down-sides; not putting away all those first half chances & the crowd. I suppose people have just got out of the habit as it seems so long since a home game.

I would say a mixture of no home games for sometime, it's cold, Man U were on TV and some would point a finger at the lack of consistancy...

...but onwards and upwards. F A Trophy this weekend and hopefully there will be a lot more turning up and then the team can build a run of wins in the league and the support will recover

I would agree that the support last night was dissapointing but you can't disregard the circumstances. Tuesday night, cold, against Harrow (never a big crowd puller) with Man U v Celtic on the TV certainly are factors. Don't forget work commitments and this was the first competative game at home for three weeks.

Then we have to look at the teams performance leading up to this game. After Aylesbury, Folkestone and then a very good performance (the result not really matching the effort), the team had won two out of three. Two games won on the trot, was certainly a rarity for us this season, as we have not been as consistant as we should've been. Horesham was a "blip" in my mind but I'm a "turn up every match" supporter, not just a "homey" who may have read the report and thought "Oh well, another defeat". Put this together with the circumstances I mentioned in the first paragraph and you have a low crowd for a Tuesday night against Harrow. Ryan said it earlier this season, (a certain type of) supporters vote with their feet. Whereas I would say that is, in some part true, you cannot discount the factors I mentioned in my paragraph.

That doesn't mean to say we should accept it or not be concerned. I am certain that the consistancy of "performance" has been sorted out. Over the past four weeks, we have played some great football and had two great results. Last night's performance and result was certainly a "back on track" performance, despite a nervous start from the lads. I an sure that as messages were texted to the absent supporters about the score line, there were some who wished they hadn't made the desision to miss the game. They will be there on Saturday. Then there is the prospect of our next couple of home games...F A Trophy this week, AFC Wimbledon in a couple of weeks time and after we're playing the teams that are above us. These games are important to us and our support and we should promote them hard...

...Which brings me on to the next point. We've been away and maybe a bit lazy on the "off the pitch" stuff, like promoting the club. Some of us do quite a bit for the club and with the amount of home games we had in September and October, were looking at the away games in November with a certain amount of relief. I know that Steve Kent, Sharon Kent and others, all work their socks off, whether we are at home or away and have business to run, work to attend and still find time to work at the club. Yep, you can say the former have an interest in the club but so do we all. Perhaps the answer to it all is to engage all the supporters of the club to spend some time during the week, putting up posters around the Town...or engage them to do something to get the crowds in....

(postscript)

...and for a start, it would be nice, to hear less moaning. I hear enough of it down the club even after a 3 zip win, bugger knows what is said when these people are like outside the club. Some may wonder how they call that support? Get that sorted out and we'll be a happier bunch...be a happier bunch and we'll encourage more people down...

A very welcome three points, and yes Chris was a class act. But in my opinion a word must be said for Ronnie. Two superb saves in the first half that potentially match winning saves?? Another in the second ensuring a clean sheet. Second half again we showed what we can do, just why cant we start like that Anyway a great second half capped off by Rikki third (full on 100mph) shot into top of net.

As for the attendance. Yes, come on folk. Big game on Saturday, and if we win we could get a tie with a top conference team in the next round..Potentially Oxford United! So come on !!

Tuesday 22nd Novemver 2005

Billericay 3-0 Windsor & Eton

Attendance 241

Couldn't tell you what the temperature was or what footie was on telly but it 'aint dis-similar circumstances.

On here your preaching to the converted. To catch the imagination of the occasional supporter we need to be challenging for something. That's when they'll want to become "involved". String a few wins together, climb up the table & and it'll happen.

I know we're preaching to the converted, Rick and I would agree with you on the second point. Which was my point made, with less waffle.

Anyway, back to the game chaps..Does anyone know if we picked up any knocks? Chris took a battering at one stage and Macca looked to be down for a while before realising "our" athlete was in no way ever going to reach him in time before it got light again

A great result for us, making up for our defeat at their place earlier in the season. I felt that we improved as the game went on and in the second half we were more or less completely dominant. Keeping a clean sheet was an important bonus too. It should send us into Saturday's game in good heart. Agree Whelpdale was MOTM for me.

Sure the crowd was sh8t, but I think people are getting majorly hung up about it. I certainly don't think that having a pop at the people who do turn up is the way forward though. We have some attractive home fixtures in December and hopefully that will improve things a bit.

Things will improve.

The game itself was enjoyable, especially the second half. What I found quite strange was that we were nervous at the start...but we settled down and pushed on.

Difficult to pick a MOM as they all played well but I'll go with the flow and agree with Chris Whelpdale with Rikki Burbridge's goal being goal of the match. He does have knack of popping up with these killer strikes, doesn't he...

And to clear things up...I wasn't having a "pop"...Just a "Waffle"...I still think we should all have a group hug though...

Rick, did you notice Santana and "Jingo"?
