The plot thickens

I see 'geordie boy' has posted an update on the 'Hakimgate' affair over on the other place.

It does pose the questions, 1) Was the contract in order?, 2) Why would Wheymuff seek confirmation from the FA? did the player himself have any reason to suspect it may not have been kosher or had he been told by someone close to the high offices of the Mighty Saints? Somebody who might have recently left rather suddenly perhaps?

Purely conjecture of course, I wouldn't dream of pointing the finger at anyone on here.

Ciao Mancini, mia caro.

The comings and goings of Officials at The Mighty Saints is only available on a 'need to know basis'. The only Officials who, according to baseless rumour have left the club recently are the Matchday Co-Ordinator and her husband - above and beyond reproach, in my view -, and the Commercial Manager - he of the "The Biggie fund-raisng whizzo project to bring millions into the club this season is to sell matcxhday programmes on e-bay. I can't see him picking up the dog and bone to Martyn Harriso and saying "watcha Mr Harrison, I have some insider information concerning The Mighty Saints what might be of interest to you." But then, I'm not a fan of the TV programme 'Spooks'. It's too life-like for my taste.

I've just had a quick look at the Forum on the Official site. Trash. Negative bunch of mischief-makers.

Is 'Geordie Lad' really Gibbo or is it EFMTFTV 'avin a laugh'?

The picture of Golden Boots spending a quiet day or two at the seaside - however pleasnt a resort Weymouth might be - and the owner of the hotel coming in for his Full English and spotting our erstwhile hero eating a bowl of pasta is a good 'un.

"'Ello, 'ello, 'ello. Aren't you the leading scorer at The Mighty Saints for the past three seasons? What are you doing in this neck of the wooods? Enjoying a brief respite from training and taking in the sea air?"

"No, mate. That's Lee Clarke. I'm Paul Hakim. I'm just down here looking for full-time work that still allows me to return to Clarence Park on training nights".

"Hmmnnn" says the hotellier to himself, "this lad could fill the bench at the Wessex and he will probably enjoy the Route One football favoored by garry Hill. We should put in a seven day to our good friends from Hertfordshire".

Laugh? I nearly cried.

A very restrained statement from Gibbo on this occasion, and good for him for that. I wonder if someone has had a word.

So the first thing we heard was a phone call from Garry Hill on Friday morning to the chap who used to drive the red tractor "Watcha Eamsie, Garry here. Do me a favour and fax over the release thingie and the registration forms of The Boy Hakim, mate. We've just signed him on a two and I'd like to put him on the bench for tomorrow".

Err. I don't think so.

The Muff have special dispensation from the FA to dispense with niceties of a seven day approach, then? Any player what they are interested in can ignore his obligations providing the club continue to pay him in full while he is injured and unable even to take the team-sheet from the manager to the referee one hour before kick-off?

Gibbo is somewhat unlikely to read this much less take any advice from me [it's probably a good job he doesn't know who I am] but I suggest that we obtain a High Court Injunction preventing the lad playing for any other club, and fine him 75% of his wages if he doesn't turn up for training and 75% of his wages if he doesn't turn up on match days and 75% of his wages if he doesn't play in our soon-to-be-formed Reserve side which is to play in the St Albans Observer U15 [+one over 21 year old] Saturday afternoon League, and 75% of his wages if he doesn't do the players' tunnel stewarding on match days when he's not picked to play , and 75% of his wages if he doesn't take his turn washing the kit and 75% of his wages if he doesn't clean Lee Clarke's boots properly.

Let him dream of the ten grand signing on fee that will remain in Martyn Harrison's pocket. And when he's been here nine and a half years and starts to plan his testimonial season, let him go then, with no hard feelings and our good wishes.

To many mercenaries in today's game, there isn't any loyalty shown by these players they just chase the pound note, At the end of the day Colin will only want players that want to play for him and the club anyway.

You did say 'most', Zealster, but you're not talking to one here. I don't get out of bed etc.

And, more important than that, for me, it's not a question of loyalty. There is a way of doing things, and those involved in this murky little situation have not done it the right way.

If Paul Hakim was 'properly' under contract [spare me the debate about what that might mean, thanks], and if he wanted to play full-time football, and if Garry Hill and the Muff wanted to give him a chance at that, and if they were prepared to pay the proper market price, and if they came to The Mighty Saints, then I'm sure that Colin Lippiatt "would not have stood in his way". "at the end of the day", "to be fair", "second half", "early doors" and all that football speak rubbish, and he would have left with our good wishes. Well, mine anyway.

Instead, they have screwed us out of ten thousand pounds, or so. Or they think they have.
