Do Officials Ever Make You Feel Like Quitting?

there is a fine line between failure and success...like a goal not given or a penalty wrongly given..and who pays the consequences of these costly mistakes?managers, chairmen and clubs.certainly not your referees!

Incorrect again. At the top level of refereeing they are all on 1 year contracts that may or may not be renewed for the following year. If the clubs are not happy with them they go. On the leagues that I officiate on over the last 2 years they have removed the bottom group of referees from their lists. That will all be based on the marks they have received from clubs.

what i'm saying is that referees make mistakes at top level that can cost the club on the receiving hand, thousands of pounds,ie relegation or title.those referees are still around but that club gets relegated, missing on important money thus sacking people that work in their offices,to contain costs in a lower league.that poor web-site editor with 3 kids and a wife, pays for one mistake by the man in black and has to go to the job centre the following monday morning!believe, this happen for real!it ain't a joke the referee will continue with his referee's job,not knowning that his "bad day at the office" cost people at that club, their jobs.how many times has happened?quite a few i reckon..

No. It is not one decision that cost it. What about the penalty miss by the striker on thousands a week 3 months ago that cost a point.

Point taken coachie but to say a team has ever been relegated down to a bad decision is clutching at straws.

no,that's reality!it happens every year, especially in the lower professional leagues.

Rubbish. It is down to the constant stream of poor decisions taken by players during 46 league matches. If you finish in the relegation places it is beacuse you deserve to not because a ref gave a penalty against you in the final game that clearly wasn't a penalty.

that's only an excuse to mask the poor standard of referees at every level.technology has to come and help, especially at the top level where big money is at stake.in the esl, don't worry chaps, there is no relegation so we welcome any crap ref willing to do his apprenticeship

Ditto for Coaches. Any coach that has been in the ESL for more than a year must be poor.

I think if you asked a number of lower league managers they would say that bad decisions may have contributed but were not the real reason for their teams performances.I wonder if that chap from Peterborough on that programme with Ron Atkinson would agree.(What A kernob he was.)
