What did we all have for dinner today?

I made some prawn and salmon parcels earlier this week. Not bad, but should have put more saucy in them. Gave three to my Dad, don't think I could have managed all of them.

Tonight, I will mainly be having steamed bacon pudding, leeks and carrots with mashed potato and white sauce.

Last night was the other half's work Christmas party. They had a buffet with fried chicken, baked chicken, roast beef, pasta salad, garden salad, roasted red potatoes, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans.. etc. They also had quite a few desserts to choose from. The best part was the open bar. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> I think I had most of a bottle of Captain Morgan before the evening was up. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

How much would you say it costs a company, per head, to pay for the location, food and a free bar?

How long is a piece of string? Depends on what is laid on...If you are talking, Château Lafite, with caviar, truffles, salmon and sea urchins, then it will cost the earth. But if it's a make-do occasion, ie, Blue Nun, Cheese footballs, and curly value ham sarnies then a minimal fee would suffice...

I'm not really sure how much, but I would guess around $100 a couple because of the room for the night, for this one. I have been to some where I would guess it was around $10 a person.

We're having fish and chips tonight.

 

It's weird up here in t'north, you just have to ask for fish and chips, you don't say what sort of fish you want.

 

Sometimes they ask you if you want bits wi'it (with it) - also known as scraps in some parts. It is also common to chuck curry sauce on your chips.

 

Then they do outrageous things to peas.

 

Not me though. Tonight it is fish and chips. No more, no less.

I wasn't too keen on the chips, mushy peas and gravy combo when I tried it. I think I would rather stick to fish with vinegar and chips on their own.

 

What exactly are the bits, or scraps? Would that be the crumbs of fish batter that fall off in the fryer?

Always remember up in scotland the ask if you want 'salt and sauce' and look at you rather oddly if you ask for 'salt and vinegar'.

Yes, that's what the bits are. I don't touch them - I too go for straight fish and chips, salt and vinegar.

 

The fish is generally good it has to be said. Haddock, I understand.

That is what I thought. At the major fast food fish and chips chain here, the call them crumbs. They are the best part of the meal. Probably because you know how sinful they are, for calories and clogging arteries.
