New Stadium

I have heard rumour that the Fleet have 5 sites in mind for new stadium. One of them being the A.E.I club. I really hope they dont choose that one.

I wonder if the club ever entertained the old Harmsworth/Fleetway ground at the top end of Parrock street?

It Is a massive area enough for parking and a stadium, its not far from Gravesend or the railway station.Plus many years ago it had a stand at the ground,a small one but a stand, so the site must have had building permission in the past.

I believe there is room to build a stadium, plus maybe sports arena. and still have room over. Anyone have any ideas where the other 4 proposed sites are?

I would also suggest we can forget the 2008 deadline that was banded about,Especially as it stands at the moment without a Development Partner.

(no pun intended)

Good job guards don't have whistles now, or everytime a train leaves the station, the game would stop/start!
Don't they? Must be my imagination. Both platform staff and guards (these days referred to as conductors) still use them.

Last time i travelled on a train, they pushed a button over the doors that sounded a bell/buzzer in the drivers cab.
They will be bringing back Steam Engines next!

That is correct for indicating that the train can go.

The whistle is an indication for the passengers to 'jolly well hurry up and get on the train'.

Well that backs up my original thoughts then, better not build near the station!

Your Parrock Street site, do you mean the Old Gravesendians Association and Gravesend RFC?

I don't think that having had a ramshackle stand in the past will mean planning permission will be given for a stadium & sports arena.

If you wanted to build some sort of massive religious type building planning permission would not be a problem. Now wouldn't that have been a great location in the middle of town!

An Ebbsfleet site makes sense, plenty of available land, and not too far from the current ground. Plus retaining existing transport links and adding further access of this new station.

cannot argue other than at the moment I see no parking space around the station, I have a feeling there maybe loads of that built before a stadium.

There is something like five car parks built around the station.

Some will be for the Eurostar and two (I think) will be for the commuter service when it opens.

You can see them quite easily from the train, but probably not from the road.

cool thanks for that , as I do not travel on the trains would not have seen them

To sum up:
approx 9,000 parking spaces
six platforms – two for international and four for domestic services
eurostar services start next year
domestic rail services begin in 2009

Journey times to the continent:

Ebbsfleet International - Paris 2h05
Ebbsfleet International - Brussels 1h41
Ebbsfleet International - Lille 1h10
