Yesterday's attendance

Recommended Posts

When I heard the hoots of derision when the attendance w

s announced, I was clearly not the only one who thought there were more at the ground than 2011.

At least 1000 Oxford fans, 250 in the main stand + side terrace, 350+ in the n seats. Only 400 on the main road terrace! They are having a laugh!

A bit like the Canvey "4098" , I guess.

Still, we played brilliantly in front of a big crowd!

Dave has explained recently why we have no incentive to publish a lower crowd than we have.

However, I was amazed by the figure announced. I'd say at a conservative estimate, Oxford had 800 who went through the car park turnstiles. So only 1200 went through the main turnstiles? Err...so how come the absolutely enormous queues when we arrived at 2.35, which made me glad I had a season ticket & a free & half price voucher for the people I brought. The stand running down Stonebridge Road was packed - at least double the number who usually stand there & the main stand where I sit was at least 50% up on usual.

Still, we won & the 1st time I can remember us pulling it off for a big crowd since we knocked Colchester out the cup a decade ago. Will Johnny Occasional return on 2nd December? He has every incentive after yesterday's superb performance. Every single Fleet player was tremendous. Best footballer on the park: Stacy Long. No one on Oxford's side came near him.

Thats probably because there was 2,019. Don't take offence, I'm only joking. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/bounce.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/chloe.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/bisou.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/attentat.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/busted.gif" alt="" />

I arrived at the Stonebridge Road turnstiles at about 2:35 as well. With the exception of the Season Ticket/Comps, all the turnstiles had queues of at least 20-30 bodies. Right behind me was new local resident, who'd just moved into the area. He said he felt he ought to attend the game, as we were his new local club. What a glorious first game to watch the Fleet, I hope he enjoyed it, and felt he got his monies worth. I'd be fairly certain he'll be back for the Kidderminster game on the 2nd, and hope he brings some mates along, too.

All we need now are another regular 500 like minded locals, to build up the coffers.

I think with the building of the new homes nearby we can only hope...Should we be thinking of doing something along the lines of a mailshot to these new homes..Not sure how many they are building but there was a 1/2 page ad in the Evening Standard last week.

Made me think should I move back ? <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" />

None taken <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />, but this is the second time it's happened where at the match it was announced at one figure, which the BBC and Confguide take, but the official site says it's different <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

Its a hard life being a doing the poediction league <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/smirk.gif" alt="" />

That's what I thought I had heard when it was announced, and there was nothing to compare it with when I updated the database, I'll check on the correct figure and amend if necessary.

The official Oxford site reports 744 as the away attendance

It also says that the total attendance was 2,011, so I wasn't the only one!

There still looked plenty more than 2011 or 2019.

Not suggesting for 1 minute anything untoward by the club, it just looked like a crowd in excess of 2300.

Even if Oxford 'only' brought 744, the other 3 sides clearly had more than 1250 odd.

I made the Northfleet stand at least 3/5 full = approx 350, the main stand and side terrace = about 250.

The main road terrace was also pretty packed the whole length, certainly more than 600.

That would probably explain it, H. Bit surprised they don't add on the season ticket holders - perhaps that's why our attendances appear to be always lower than other teams.

It's also a psychological thing - if the casual floating supporter sees attendances of 1000, he may be less interested in going than if the gates were 1500+.

Punters will show an interest if they think a lot of other people consider the games worthy of watching.

I imagine it's all worked out for the tax man. As we have already taken the money for the season tickets they don't get added to the final gate. I suppose we have something to submit at the begining of the season that says how many season tickets we've sold??

Nonsense!!

The only thing that we send to the taxman would be the quarterly VAT returns and the accounts and corporation tax return at the end of the year.

Come on C.G. you went to the diddn't Keith Williams teach you maths?

744+350+250+600=1944
Att as reported 2019

Doesn't sound very far out to me.
