Worthing vs Slough - Match Updates

my god... how the keeper stayed on was beyond me... the yellow card given was either blatant cheating, bottling or blindness by the referee...

Daly's tackles (for which he received two yellows) were not that bad from where i was... not studs up or malicious, but certainly a bit late which could justify the cards...

bloody well done for hanging on for the point. Esp for Darron (absolute legend), Dell, Leigh and Alexis

Can anyone confirm that carl marsh was also sent off for protesting at the ref? certainly looked like he was given his marching orders.

One thing I would like to highlight was Drake's improved form today. Ok, there were a few fumbles, but there was also a lot of solid catches and his kicks were spot on today.

Saw Westy briefly afterwards, as we had to return to the ground to find the back of marcus' phone which had fallen off during the frantic conversation with dom about all of the above... he looked absolutely gutted, poor sod.

Still, there were positives to take from the game, the team played with a lot of heart today which can only be a good thing in our current situation.

A Worthing Fan here, to be fair to the situation the Ref totally lost it. Our keeper could have easily been sent off, however the Worthing Player sent off was Sam Francis, he reacted because someone from your side spat at him, whilst Sam shouldnt have retaliated, their is no place in football for this.

Yes I exploded SR ! I was calm when the ref came off the pitch..I asked him to go to the slough fans to explain why their keeper was still on the pitch ! He caused the problem along with the ref to act quickly to a situation he allowed to get out of control ! and Slough again were the ones to suffer from it !

The Worthing Bend were tottally to blame as well with the comments thrown to Errol and Micheal when he came on the pitch, everytime they past got verbal nasty comments , surley the worthing bence should encourage their own players than the opposition players..(disgrace worthing bench !)

To sue , FYI the 2 black guys that throw the bottle which just missed you were 2 worthing players (that were not playing) I had got smurkie comments when I passed them a few minutes earlier before you were abused ! They were deffo worthing players !

I can not believe for one minute if the ref was stronger non of this would have happened...a total lost of control...

Chris the way you went from behind the goal to the dressing room area was like a bull seeing a red flag. I am glad you are in one piece!

The two clowns - one with a shaved head in a mohican were passing wise cracks as I passed. Liam and I heard the "disagrement" as we neared the gate but did not see anything. However there was a "ladies" voice auidable!

If a botle was thrown then this needs to be sorted - over to Worthing to discipline THEIR player - should not be hard to find a player with a mohican and a big mouth!!!

Sounds like I missed a right boring old game, so thank goodness for that.

When I heard about the red cards, the first thing that sprung to mind was, what was running through their minds, what's the point in picking up more suspensions when we already have half our 17-man squad unavailable? To me, it's one thing to pick up two bookings during the course of a match, but quite another to stupidly get yourself sent off and reduce your team to 8 players - especially Telemaque. He may well be our main saviour in terms of goals, but his disciplinary record since joining us now looks appalling. He's going to be sorely missed (again) and now Carl Marsh won't even be able to play for a while!

However, not being there and all, I can't talk about the incident itself - but 2-2 seems like a fairly good result considering the team is still weak and we're playing two unknowns. How did Roberts and Mills get on?

There was definitely a bottle thrown at me and Phil and then the self same person ran at Phil and threatened to rip his head off(his words).

As we were being escorted away I asked the steward what he was going to do about it and he said "they would look into it but the bottle was only plastic". So I said well if you saw it, again I ask what are you going to do about it.

We were then shouted at by another bloke who told us "get out of my ground, there are children here". Seems to me its ok to throw bottles and threaten to decapitate someone in front of children!! but dont dare stand up for yourself.

And yes SR my wife does have a very loud voice!!

hi there dave here i was a little worrid about are friend sue poss being abused but thought it may be all right as phill and aiden were about if problem.i was in a diferent spot and could see right accros the pitch talking to dave and my girlfriend i felt more terbilence than a first great western train running through slough and i was worried sue was left on her own for a bit but surely ok as aiden and others were around as i checked sue allright mike asked us all to forget and think at least we got a draw and get out of here as it was nearly 1730 as we left but back in slough 1850

my girlfirend saw and pointed out the trouble on the pitch and she looked worrid as well and also could not belive keeper had not walked.

Bit of a second half eh!!! Talk about REBELS.

A view from a Worthing fan who was there with a slightly different view.

Your penalty was a very soft give - nice to see that you thought the same. Our free-kick just outside the box looked well inside the box but wasn't given even though the ref pointed to the spot and then changed his mind.

Your centre-half was a bit unlucky to get 2 yellows - both tackles were slightly late but looked worse because the forward was running so fast at him.

You see the start of the melee all the time when a striker or goalie has the ball and the other wants it quickly. It was pretty much handbags, no violence but I felt both deserved a yellow which unfortunately for your guy meant a red for his second. As you say it all was dying down and something kicked off our 16 to lose it big time and chase down one of your players with a punch. Red card, no excuse and a disgrace! Heard he was spat in the face by your 12 which if true is also a disgrace and maybe a worse crime? Red card seemed correct. No idea why the sub was carded as well.

Action packed but maybe not for the right reasons. And hte first time a half has been an hour!

Good luck for the rest of the season and 'up the rebels!'

I wouldnt normally comment on any of the versions/opinions given on the fans forum because I appreciate that it is a platform for the supporters to discuss matters that are in anyway related to the club. I do however feel that I need to clarify the situation with my sending off, after one of the other players told me what had been written.

Firstly I did NOT spit at anyone, so quite where the Worthing fan has pulled that up from I'm not sure. I was about 10 yards away from the initial incident which THEIR keeper started. If the ref had dealt with him properly then that wouldve sorted everything. Secondly, I went to split the incident up after two of their players had their hands on Errol and the 16 was throwing punches. Their bench were also giving out plenty of abouse, which doesnt excuse what happened but definitely contributed to how the situation developed.

While I'm sorry that I let the side down by getting dismissed, I am just thankful that it didnt cost us the point we had. We are a team though, and I'll always back my teammates in situations like that.

Barts, I think they are pointing the finger at Errol for the spitting, not yourself. One of the comments above does appear to point the finger at yourself, but if you look on their message board, they definitely think it was Errol.

But, thank you for posting on here and clearing that up.

Agree with the Worthing fan about our soft pen and the ref losing it.

To be fair, i honestly feel if the ref had stepped in earlier and given the keeper the staright red within seconds most of it would not have happened.

From my position im pretty sure Barts did not spit and merely got invoved in the handbags. I feel that the ref should be apologising more than ANY of the players (on both sides) as he was appaling in every way. I dont think any of our sendings off were unfair tho- but the worthing keeper and one of their other lads HAD to go as well as the others.

PS Barts: Fair play for coming on here and stating your POV, from whenever i ahve chatted to you, you always seem a really nice eloquent bloke. And am very glad that we have anotherr player willing to put their name to a post and not hiding behind an anonymous.

I agree totally with Marcus, Mark you have every right to come on here and defend yourself when accused unfairly. Imagine how us four oldies feel we have been accused of being the equivalent to the West Ham Intercity Firm or the Millwall F troop, doctors and nurses are cowering in the corridors here at Wexham when they see me coming !!!

I have rang the Argus and I spoke to Tom Gurney who wrote the article, having heard our side of the story I hope they will print some short of retraction. Not sure we are going to let the bottle incident go I think we are looking in to making an official complaint.
