Transfer speculation ?

The NLP seems to indicate that Weymouth made their checks via the FA and were told that no contract was in place but surely the player would have remembered that he had signed a contract. Surely a contract is in place even if a copy hasn't been sent to the FA. I am sure that this is something that the club will investigate.

It seems that there has been a [****!!****] up at either the club or the FA (presumably still the clubs fault for not following up that documentation has been received).

I have no problem with players who wish to maximise their potential but remember that it is the club that has put him in the shop window and as a (presumably) contracted player, the club should be rewarded with a transfer fee.

Also remember the gesture that the club made to Scott Cousins that they would continue to pay his wages when he broke his leg even though they were not obliged to as he was not under contract. An example of the club acting beyond their requirements for a non-contract player. This gesture now seems a joke if another (presumably) contracted player can just walk away from the club with no compensation.

Hmmmmnn.

Cityman suggestes that it's a not entirely straightforward situation. Hmmmmnnn. Call me old-fashioned but its pretty straightforward to me.

I'm happy to take as fact that Weymouth did not make any form of formal approach to the Club as Gibbo says that in the NLP, apparently. Similarly, Gibbo and Colin Lippiatt say [apparently] that the player telephoned the manager from the dining room of the Hotel Slendide in sunny Weymouth and said "I'm signing for the Terras, Gaffer, good luck to t'lads against R & D on Saturday. Thanks for everything.", or words to that effect.

Now whatever else they may be, Weymouth aren't completely stupid and unknowing of the rules. That suggests to me that Hakim and our old friends at the Wessex Stadium 'became aware' that the 'legal' position of this player - where we believed that he had signed a proper contract which had been properly registered at Soho Square or wherever these things are supposed to be registered - was not, in actual fact, the case.

And for sure, they, Weymouth and Hakim, have taken unfair advatage of that situation.

According to Gibbo in the NLP, apparently, we have asked the proper authorities to investigate the position and if Weymouth have broken the rules, thay must face whatever sanctions are imposed.

For me, I'm with hatboy in every sense. So, on this occasion, I don't wish a former Saint well for the future.

Hakim wouldn't get into the side next week anyway.

One more small point. Paul Hakim is no Freddy Eastwood, so talk of 20 or 30,000 pounds is wishful thinking in my view. Five or ten thousand would be closer to the mark and he's welcome to his intellectual property rights. Mind you, if Weymouth are found to have broken the rules, I've said all along that Paul Hakim could become City's first million pound player.

It's about time the FA took action over broken contracts, anyone would think they're not worth the paper they're written on.

Add Tony 'just popping off to the States' Roberts and Lenny Piper 'postcard from Farnborough' Piper to the list.

I'm sure that The FA will take action if they have a copy of the contract lodged with them.
