Ferenc Puskas

It has been announced that the world of football has lost another of it's all time 'greats'.

Apparantly the former Hungary and Real Madrid legend has passed away as a result of suffering from a bout of fever and pneumonia at the age of 79. Puskas had spent the last six years in a Budapest hospital fighting the affects of Alzheimer's disease.

Puskas scored 83 goals in 84 games for Hungary from 1945 to 1956 and later played for Spain in the 1962 World Cup.

Puskas joined Real Madrid and, along with Alfredo di Stefano, was the inspiration behind a string of domestic and European titles. He scored four goals in Real's 7-3 win over Eintracht Frankfurt in a remarkable final at Hampden Park in 1960, and won the European Cup three times with the Madrid side.

In all, he scored 512 goals for Real in 528 matches and in 1962 he took out Spanish citizenship in time to play for his adopted country in the 1962 World Cup.

Rest in peace.

Never saw him play so can't comment on his talent but that is a fantastic record. Could you imagine the noise that would be made about this bloke if he had played for Arsenal, Man United or England. Certainly better than that bloke who died a year ago tomorrow, what was his name again?

What a great goal turnaround 595 goals in 612 games, has that goal ratio ever been matched? Haven't got the stats to hand for Pele, Maradona or Cruyff but I should imagine they aren't as good as that, if they are what are today’s players up to? They should pull their socks up.

What a ridiculous comment!!!!

Different type of player, played in a different position, and played during a different era.

Comments like that Harry just about sums you up. What an a*>e.

And this is the cleaned up thread, with further juvenile comments and posts deleted.

It is difficult not to come to the same conclusion.

Up the Fleet , and lets get 3 points today .

I did not class my posts as juvenile by any means. I apologised if I had stirred up matters between HJA & CG, and even posted a comment that the "banter" should cease forthwith. So, I would be grateful if you would not include me in your generalisation of comments posted !

H......

...just an opinion, I am always in favour of free speech, but maybe you might just have to think a bit more before deciding what you post ? just in case it causes offence ?

It's one thing having a conversation with people face to face, then if they disagree the they can argue back ( or punch you !) but here, you are posting your remarks to all....and often, as in e-mails, you do not get the tone in which it may be said.

It's no sweat of my a*se whatever ever you decide to say....but just a friendly word of advice....

Cheers,

Thank you Hirsty, I always listen to advice and like it that it comes from one of the forumers that have a brain in their head.

I have an opinion on if a persons footballing ability makes up for being a 24/7 drunk, it doesn't that’s my opinion. People shouldn't take things so seriously, this is only a forum it contains peoples opinions. The remarks that came out about George Best show that people had a love for him despite his troubles in later life, I didn't. Get over it.

It's just a shame someone can't make comments on here without receiving abuse.

Freespeach has died.

So I'm not allowed to have an oppinion?

I refuse to stoop to your level of insults.

Once again Harry.........OWN GOAL! You have given out more than your fair share of abuse in the forum, and most cowardly of all, in the form of Private Messages! Free speech does not include deleting posts that do not agree with you or a moderator.........I suggest YOU get over it!

Free speech is not hitting somebody over the head with a cricket bat, as you tend to do if we do not agree with you!

No wonder this is the laughing stock of the non-league forums!

Is it? Is there a survey somewhere that has these results?

I made that call on talking to people on other forums. They have had posts deleted because they did not meet with moderators or other peoples opinions on here.
This arguement over deleting posts has reared it's ugly head several times before, and I would have thought those "childish" actions would have ceased by now.

No read the post again. I'm not talking about the posts that were deleated. I'm talking about the comments coming from the Man Utd fan. I don't like George Best because of his alcohole abuse, that doesn't matter to many people but it does me.

And how many times have I got to apologise for my insults of the past. I think your the one that needs to get over things.

The only issues I have is with deleting posts, and your comments lacking sensitivity, and maybe a little more thought, instead of sledgehammer tactics.

I actually agree with you that George Best wasted his talents, but he was a great player. He drank himself to death, no arguement, but that was HIS right to do so.

I would love to read your post again, but i think it might have been deleted!

Thought long and hard about it. I don't like him. I'm not happy he is dead, it's very sad, a human life and someone that was very much loved. However I, and many others, feel that it's the old Diana thing again. People not being able to let go.

The same thing was being discussed on confguide when he died and the conclusion we got from that was perhaps if it had happened to someone I grew up watching, then I'd understand. I've got an uncle that beat it, and a friend of my fathers who couldn't.

Was it though? His right? He got a new liver, I shall imagine that someone died due to natural causes just so Best could get that liver. Yeah it's his body and his right but what about what he put his friends and family through?
