Rough old place with an inferiority complex about Leeds and Bradford (you'll probably struggle to imagine how that could be possible) and has always been more of a rugby town that a football town. The sort of place where you dont have to ask to be slapped.

The sheds in the back yard that are half wood and half chicken wire. They're for the pigeons. If the pigeons didn't return from one of their flights, they might use the shed thing for the whippets.

 

A mate of mine comes from Manchester or somewhere and I suggested that it [that's Manchester] is in Yorkshire.

 

"T'other side of the Pennines, lad", said he to me, "on our side, all the football teams are in the Premiership, and on t'other side, they baren't [? well it sounded like 'baren't'] any. Ey oop."

 

I just nodded and walked away.

Or is Burnley in Yorkshire?

Burnley is in Lancashire. Halifax is generally OK but you might want to keep a low profile in some of the pubs.

Halifax Town otherwise known as...The Shaymen. Didn't they have the chart hit Ebeneezer Goode. I remember a song from the terraces of Clarence Park in the early 90's incorporating that song. Anyone else remember?
