I think the bit that I, Mike Newell and most people will have a problem with is when you said, "But there are not enough women in football and the law does state that there has to be a certain number ". Why? <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/shrug.gif" alt="" />

 

Why does there HAVE to be a certain number? That's exactly the kind of thing Newell is objecting to. Some chinless wonder somewhere decrees there MUST be more women in MENS football, and they will accelerate promotion of women officials (Often at the expense of a more skilled male official) in order to hit a quota that no-one in football has asked for.

 

The bottom line is give the jobs to the best qualified, regardless of gender. Only then will you have TRUE equality.

As i said earlier, it's a law, but whjy single out the women. There r some really crap male refs about, why do they not get slated like the women?

I respect people like Mike Newell and Ian Holloway for speaking their mind, and making football funny...

Fair enough he's not happy with an official, but whether it be male or female, he should deal with them on a level playing field...

 

His comments were sexist, and O/O/O... he could have said "she had a bad game"...

 

Smallsy - you are contradicting yourself mate. You either think they should or shouldn't officiate...

 

I think they should. I agree with Kattyann, if everyone is moaning about male officials, how can females do any worse?! <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/shrug.gif" alt="" />

 

I think some females probably could referee a good game of football...

 

No referees are perfect, and NO-BODY is perfect in this world, so we can crucify them for making mistakes...

 

Mistakes do cost us games, but you dont see players get the same sh*t that referees have to endure...

 

I think we have to accept that officials are going to get decisions wrong, but they are trying their best...

 

They are not trying to cheat, or mess with the game. They are officiating the game AS THEY SEE IT

 

This thread should remain open for debate, but I dont think we should discriminate against women in football... <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

I dont think that women should officiate because i dont think that it would ever ever be fully accepted - like i said about narrow mindedness, personally wouldnt bother me but think it would bother alot of people. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/smirk.gif" alt="" />

They do get slated KA, every game, in fact probably more so than a woman would.

 

I personally don't care what gender the match officials are, as long as they can do the job. I just hate the Equal Opps mob demanding there be more women in football just because they are women.

 

This kind of "positive descrimination" is going on everywhere in society. White male/female applicants are getting rejected for jobs in the police (without interview or consideration) in order to recruit ethnic minorities.

 

Again, I couldn't care less what race, creed or colour the local Bobby is, so long as he/she is the best person for the job.

 

Tokenism prevents true equality!!!

KA - you are taking the argument to silly places. would we not let a female doctor treat us? get real. we are talking football here and nothing else. i am not sexist but do not think women should ref mens games. there i said it <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Some very good points here. I don't have a problem with having women officials, as long as there not fast tracked into the game 'to make the numbers up'

Some women officials, could even possibly make better refs, as they know being female, every single bad decision would be scrutinised tenfold more than if a male made it.

Bring back Roger Milford imo <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/bow.gif" alt="" /> I'm not sexist! I love womens cooking

She has been running the line since half way through last season, why has she been slatted now ?? Something to do with Mr Newell losing four on the spin i think !! Pressure starting to tell i give him less than a month. We have had female refs and in all honesty they are just the same standard as the men.
