Groundshare at Ashburton Grove

Recommended Posts

As regular forum readers will know, I was very kindly offered complimentary tickets to the Emirates Stadium today. Whilst there, I made discrete enquiries relating to Rhodes' groundshare claims made numerous times on here. The general response was either "Kentish Who?" or "have they got a football team?". Don't sound too hopeful, does it.

I would be interested to know who Kentish Town have been in discussion with about this matter? I was told today that the only person who decides who plays on the pitch there is Arsene Wenger. Not the Chairman, not the Vice Chairman, not even the Groundsman. The ONLY person who decides what gets played on that pitch is Wenger - and I wouldn't imagine he's ever heard of Kentish Town!

It's a very nice ground, AWK. Good sight lines from any part of the ground. Comfortable seats and good leg room. I still think the Millennium Stadium just shades it, but not bad.
Give me Highbury any day!

No Highbury was unrecognisable whan I walked past it the other day, I'm just saying give me Highbury compared to Ashburton Grove any day of the week, you simply can't beat the traditional old grounds like Ayresome Park, the Victoria Ground, the Manor Ground, the Baseball Ground, Roker Park, Maine Road, Filbert Street, Highfield Road, Fellows Park, Huish and Boothferry Park to name a few.

I agree with you from the nostalgia point of view, but in the case of the Baseball Ground, for example, it was no longer "fit for purpose" and, like Highbury, the site just wasn't big enough. Although I have many cherished memories of games at the Baseball ground, I also remember not being able to see, and being crushed in crowd surges!

I used to go to Highbury, but got fed up paying zillions (when I could actually get a ticket) then not being able to see the game.

Have you been to many of the modern grounds Rhodes? At the Reebok, the seats are comfy, and you can still see the action even when the person in front of you stands up.

OK, they don't have the atmosphere of older grounds, but to pay a fortune then not be able to see is a joke.

I didn't mind going to the older grounds when there was still standing terraces, but I don't really like sitting down at games anyway, so I'll stick with non league now.

My daughter wanted me to take her to Tottenham a couple of years back. I looked on the website for tickets and discovered that I could only buy tickets with "restricted view" ! The website attempted to show just how restricted they were , and you were basically sitting behind a steel girder! Drastically reduced price? You are joking! Presumably they stay unoccupied. Give me the new grounds any day.

I usually only purposely buy the restricted view tickets whenever I go to Tottenham these days. Fortunately, I know the seats that aren't really that restricted and still afford a good view of the game. For example, at the Chelsea game last week, I paid £50 for my restricted view seat whilst the person next to me, with more or less the same view, was classified as being in an unrestricted view seat and paid £61. I generally don't go to Premiership games much these days due to the prohibitive cost but, when I do, a saving of £11 by sitting one seat further along is not to be sniffed at.

I fI paid £50 to watch a Spurs game I would expect my whole view to be blocked.

Sounds a cracking stadium PBT, I'm definetly going to try to get a ticket there this season though it will probably cost a fortune!
