Christmas is a time for families rather than going off to far flung places like Biggleswade, Royston or Langford on Boxing Day.

Far flung places? Last New Years Eve, we played away to Stamford. THAT'S far flung places for you.

The SSML Premier Division should get Bank Holiday games as it would get the clubs at the top end used to the idea of preparing for and playing on those dates when they get promoted.

I can see both points of view, I know the missus moans when Ive a programme to do on Boxing Day

However in regards to far flung places, thats why local derbies are normally associated with Boxing Day, going to Biggleswade isn't to far if your from Langford.

Horace said: I respect that viewpoint, but on recent Boxing Day's we have taken well over £1,000 at the gate and a similar amount in the bar - important revenue fo a small club. This is equivalent to several gates on "normal" days. Also Easter Monday attracts similar crowds and I'm not sure that players are so reluctant to play aftenoon games on that day. Whatever, it needs a debate, not the personal choice of the fixtures secretary.
Money is not the be all and end all, some players could end up in the divorce courts if their other halves insist on them staying home with the family on Boxing Day and they're forced to go off and play football. Also Phil Rolt is an easy target for not issuing fixtures for a full season and now not entertaining Premier Division and Division 1 games on Boxing Day, you'll be blaming him for the war in Iraq next and I don't see why you don't just give the poor bloke a break and let him get on with the excellent job he's doing.

You saying we're not allowed to try and change things if there's a consensus? The management committee are there to run the league for the member clubs, not the other way round. Money might not be the be all and end all for the North London Beduins, but it is very important when you are trying to maintain your own ground!

Also, people who stand still are easy targets!

Particularly The 61FC.

I'll have you two know that The 61 FC were founded by a Vicar and the Club takes its name from the address of the Church of which it was formed!!!

And you would be welcomed down to Kingsway Rhodes, and anybody else should you wish to come down on Boxing Day, we may even get an attendance that goes into double figures

Well, now you mention it, I understand that the Iraqi's were against having their national league fixtures published monthly and the Americans and the Britons only went in to try and establish an annual fixture list but things became a little heated.

Surely what the Management Committee says goes, the likes of Phil, Terry Gilmore and the Referee's Secretaries have a difficult enough job as it is without everyone getting on their backs when something doesn't suit them and making their lives a misery, as I said why not just let them get on with it.

The management committee are voted in to make decisions on the clubs' behalf BUT, if they are making decisions that the majority of clubs don't want or like and choose to steamroller on ahead regardless, then they are not serving the purpose for which they were elected.

If they were just left to get on with it, as you suggest Rhodes, what boundaries would there be to make sure that they made decisions in the best interests of member clubs and not themselves?

but it shouldn't be a unilateral decision by the fixtures secretary! It may well be that the majority of players welcome this view, and if so I respect that viewpoint, but on recent Boxing Day's we have taken well over £1,000 at the gate and a similar amount in the bar - important revenue fo a small club. Thought I would add my comments to this
If players are getting paid by there respective clubs they should expect to play on Boxing day or New year's day.
Don't forget full time players train on Christmas Day
As an ex Player, I didn't like it but when you consider the amount of revenue it can generate for the club,I think it's a good thing, especially if it's a local derby that attracts a big crowd.

Even though players might not be getting paid loads they are still not actually paying to play footie like the majority of players around the country. Doesn't hurt to give a bit back to the clubs every now and again.

(Personally I'd love to play on Boxing and New Years Day, no better way to clear a hang over than a nice big fry up and a game of footie (Golf preferably but then footie!)
