A very disappointing dismissal however he is still highly regarded by many and one of the games up and coming managers who calls it as he sees it, Clough style, and won't be out of work for very long. I predict that he will find another job by the end of this month.

AWK - I see that Mike Newell is in the news again as Luton are alleging he creamed off 500k as his 10% percentage of transfer fees whilst at Kenilworth Road, is there any truth in that.

Thats the rumour doing the rounds Rhodes, though I would find it hard to believe that he was on such a high percentage. Its all quite a highly charged subject at the moment at Luton, I don't know how much the "outside" world knows about the situation, but there is a big split between the fans to whether Newell should have been sacked or not.

A lot of fans think he should have gone based on results (as well as team selection and signings), others think he was trying to get the sack by his comments as well as the fans who think that it is the board that is at fault for giving such a small amount of monies available for transfers after making some 9 million on selling players.

Its not all clear cut though, Newell signed more than he sold and questions have been raised on his judgement, again countered by the fact that we should have been able to get more quality in with more money available, but then the board say they have never turned him down and he has spent a lot, in Luton terms.

Next up is that the board have said that they never told Newell to sell, and have always left the final decision to him, Mike has always said that the board were never eager to turn money down, however if the 10% rumour is true then it adds a new slant to the story, if the board go to Newell that Birmingham have offered 2.5 million for Rowan Vine and that he gets a 10% cut off it, then there is a huge conflict of interests there for the manager and if he decides to accept the deal then he leaves himself open to critisism about double standars and the board can come out with the "Newell had the final say" line, knowing it was too good a deal for him to turn down.

All this barely scratched the surface to what is going on at Kenilworth Road at the moment, its astonishing how quickly every thing has just fallen apart.

AWK - A fascinating post. What did you think of the new appointment yesterday, you have to admire him for taking the job on particularly in the light of your comments that all is not well at Kenilworth Road.

I must admit that the choice of Kevin Blackwell hasn't inspired me Rhodes, he would have been well down on my list. I do think we needed a new bloke in though, hopefully Blackwells appointment will see an upturn in fortunes just as Coventry got when Dowie went there (said more in hope than expectation).

Kevin Blackwell is optimistic about the future, new ground and new investors have been promised and he thinks we have an exciting few years ahead and he wants to be part of it, the only problem is that we (the fans) have been hearing this for ages now with no tangable proof that either is going to happen.
