Ruislip Manor 3 Langford 2

Recommended Posts

Cracking match and given the respective goals for and against of each team not really surprising it was a feast of goals.

Langford dominated the first ten minutes and could have been three up but some bad finishing and good goalkeeping kept them out. We had hardly had a sniff but thought all our Christmas's had come at once when Jason Shaw floated in a free kick and The Sway headed in number 23 for the season. Suddenly we were all over the Langford back four like a rash and with Chris Henry and Ben Payne pulling up trees it was no surprise we went 2-0 up with the finest goal I've seen at the Vale in many a year. A wonderful flowing move reminiscent of the great Nottingham Forest team of the late 1970s or the Magical Magyars of the 1950s ended with the quicksilver Chris Henry firing past the keeper. Langford were still in the game though and had chances but just before half time the mercurial Henry danced his way Brazilian sytle into the penalty area only to be ruthlessly chopped down. The Sway stepped up to convert the spot kick but the keeper guessed right and made a fine save (Yes Rhodes I know the great Tommy Lambourne would have scored it with his eyes shut but as Sway was on 9 out of 9 he was on penalties. Whether he still is I do not know)

So 2-0 at half time but Langford came out all guns blazing at the start of the second half and pegged us back. They quickly got one back and then a well worked free kick routine gave them an equaliser. Just when they looked to be getting on top though we came back as the game continued to ebb and flow. About ten minutes from the end we got what proved to be the winner when Henry (surely a candidate for M-O-M) hit his second. Chances came after that at both ends but we hung on for three valuable points.

Now for the important bit as far as one person who posts on here is concerned - Lambourne did okay but he is still part of a suspect defence that gets caught square too often. And he didn't really get a chance to attack. Kalu and Barker did not figure in the 16, Rhodes have you signed both yet?

Larve it! You're only 9 points behind us now Lato! (and the Sway has overtaken Kevin Cooper in the goalscorer charts)
