Mickey Lewis

Oxford United `legend` Mickey Lewis has been appointed first-team coach of British Gas Business Southern League Division One South & West club Abingdon United.

Lewis, who played, coached and managed at Oxford, has been out of football since he was controversially pushed out as coach at Coca-Cola League One side Doncaster Rovers earlier this season.

One of his first jobs will be to sort out a defence that has conceded thirteen goals in their last two outings - Saturday's 8-4 FA Trophy drubbing at Hemel Hempstead Town was followed by Tuesday's 5-2 defeat against Burnham.

Abingdon manager Andy Slater, whose side host high-flyers Swindon Supermarine on Saturday, says his players need to toughen up.

"On Tuesday, all five goals were down to individual mistakes, said Slater.

"They were schoolboy errors. We need to get back to basics. We're a young side and I think we have been a bit naive.

"It is fantastic to have him Mickey on board. He has got a lot of enthusiasm and a wealth of experience from the professional game."

Do you have a persecution complex Mr Trucker?

You indeed mentioned bringing Lewis back in after the Bromley match but not a single person on this forum 'poo pooed' the idea, nor did they suggest 'he wouldn't be interested in football at Sloughs level' although on the second point, the fact he has gone to a level below Slough doesn't completely rule it out!
