ah.......cronic.....the most severe of which was a broken ankle caused by a tackle from Steve Bould, ( of Arsenal, for younger viewers !)a challenge that, if I remember correctly went unpunished by the officials ( can't be bothered to get my videos out to check !).

 

Can you imagine that in the top league these days....there would be cameras from every angle.....Bould would be sentenced to work on Blackpool beach during the summer etc.....The a*se wipes ( tabloid press ) would be calling for the return of capital punishment !!

 

The problem that Hirst had was that he was so important to the team, he was often rushed backbefore fully fit....and therefore the old snowball effect !

 

Injuries or not...top player. Man Utd bid £4m ( in old money) for him

but Francis wouldn't let him go ( Nice one Trev ....makes up for the Cantona debacle )....then Pleat came in and broke up the team & sold him to Southampton.......and ironically, Hirst & Carlton Palmer scored for Saints in their 3-2 defeat by Wednesday afterwards...Di Canio getting the winner if I am not mistaken ?
