Just playing devils advocate (if I'm still allowed), how many traditional Labour voters would vote Conservative if the party roles were reversed in this situation?
My guess would be quite a lot. Voting Liberal would be a different matter as they are incompetant. While people may not agree with either the Labour or Conservative party, they are generally recognised as competant.

again we have the people who sit on the fence ...passing comments (some valid ones) BUT don't have the answers either... we have to as a trust keep going and looking to work this mighty problem out... Ted has been working hard to enquire and look into ways to obtain grants ..looking at ways we could put a package together and work with some one ...the election sub committe have again put a candidate into the local elections and we will do this again next year...

Liam and SR you have your opions and we have ours , but at least our members are prepared to do something about it , instead of looking for someone to come in to resuce us ..we are trying to do something about it..and have a plan ready...

thats what the trust is all about...

to be there when the [****!!****] hits the fan...

Without wishing to stir old wounds, perhaps now would be a good time for a merge with Windsor? They still have a ground, Slough still have the extra support. Every season Slough keeps going, even surviving in this division sees the club hemorrhage another 50 or so fans from the average gate, this season Slough can barely get 250 to home games. This time two years ago (lest we forget) I was in a crowd of 2,500 at Stag Meadow.

Shoot this idea down in flames if need be but what's the alternative? The council do not owe the club a ground. They can simply ask 'why were you kicked out of the old one?'

The only other alternative is to reform at Hellenic level and try to build again, improving any 'ground' as you go.

I suspect Windsor would welcome a merge too, we all know they could not get more support when they ploughed the money in during the Greene era getting Carroll, Scott, Cousins etc. Just a thought.

Oh don't worry, you'll get plenty of that.

We've had this debate so many times before and I thought both parties were against it. You go and ask Windsor fans if they want to give up their identity. Why should they? We have nothing to offer because I really don't think that many of our regular support would support the merged team.

hi there matt and all i hope we can speek football on here as realy been rather a tepid and busy week at least we are at home we can get the three points we need and keep pulling together and agree with the idea that us slough fans and windsors would not merge unless drasticly unavoideble and sadly if this the case we proberbely would lose a lot more fan base and need a dream home somehow somewhere in slough otherwise could be curtains and constantly holding on to are status until wound or the dream come true. i feel a little concerned with being around for well over 10 years and would find it very difercault without my importent dose of slough town football ah well still not many on here take care all see most of you sat and welcombe to are essex friends

Anon, I would personally rather see Slough go under and reform and support them as a Sunday side than Windsor. THAT MAY JUST BE MY OPINION THO.

Liam: Totally agree, cant see how a change of council will dramatically make us have the money to do this, even if they do agree 'in principle'.

We need to prove that the council would BENEFIT from a stadium in slough, like all business people it will only happen if its viable and profitable for them (And cant say i blame them)

ARAAS, Chris S had said the meeting had been postponed?

As for the merger idea, I can see why Peter Simpson is interested and is takes the strain off of him financially (a bit), but that would only be if all the supporters continued to support the [****!!****] offspring off the two clubs, and I don't think many would and of course Slough Borough Council would be very happy with that as it takes a problem away from them.

I think with the Montem & Ice Arena, we could be looking at a community complex to include football pitches as a possibility. Whatever we develop, it has to be community based, but also help the club be self sustaining.

Politicians like getting elected. If they see that as issue has public support and will either win or lose them votes, they do respond.

If there is a will there is a way, and we have to make sure that the Council has the will to want the club back in the Borough. If the will is there, you'd be suprised what is possible. If the will isn't there, nothing will ever happen.

Respond or say what you want to hear? Not heard much from the councillors who gave words of support at the election count, although the recent vote to have a formal meeting has shown a shift towards us.

yes gary thats just the point..all those who have pledge to help including the labour party...need to show if they are serious or not...Labour have quoted 100% in the local papers to help..the other have not...thats why we need to put electors up in the wards that have not pledged to help us...

It seems incredible that your MP Fiona McTaggart has not been mentioned. She is an extremely rich public school educated socialist, and must be used to taking up apprently hopeless causes. Why don't you try and get her on your side as most of you seem to have a northerner's preference for the labour party, so she will be delighted to meet those who keep on voting her in.

To be fair to Cllr. Hewitt, who was the councillor you referred to, he did abstain at the last vote, which considering he is a colleague of Stokes, may not have been easy for him. Pure speculation on my part now, but I guess that a tied vote on the issue would have made it feasible for one of the abstainers to say 'I've backed you as far as I can, make peace or next time I'll vote against'.

Back to facts, the Nortborough/Britwell regeneration scheme is failing fast, due to lack of finance. Another possible (or complimentary)reason for the tentative shift in the administrations attitude to the club is a realisation that sports funding is not such a bad idea after all since they have twigged that their own funding ideas won't work.
