Essex Senior Cup - D&R 2-1 Billericay

Recommended Posts

Gosh. Don't really feel qualified to start this thread, but here goes..

My naive assesment is that we were pretty evenly matched. In fact we played more than our fair share of the game in their half but when they broke forward they always looked dangerous. Particularly when atacking down their left hand side in the second half; always managed to get the cross in & they were generally good quality balls and found a red shirt.

Having said that we fought hard in the middle of the pitch and made a lot of chances ourselves, particularly towards the end of the first half when we had two or three "rebound" chances in their goal-mouth but couldn't find the net.

An enjoyable game though. A big pitch I think?

Shame we had to peer through the mirk in the second-half and weren't allowed up to the goal we were attacking.

I think we can go away proud. We applied ourselves well and in some cases should've come away with the rewards but the game was such that both teams were even, someone had to come away with the spoils. The Daggers were that team.

I suppose that following a hard fought game two days previous, it was on the cards but our fitness held out.

An enjoyable game.

thought Whelpdale was very good last night. Lots of good touches and flicks and wasnt afraid to have a run with the ball. Matty Game also played well and Billy Holland chased everything. I thought both of their goals were avoidable, the first one coming after two of our players went for the same ball with niether of them winning it leaving the Daggers player in space and he certainly finished it well. Maybe in our league the finnishing wouldnt have been so assured and we may not have been punished. Had our chances too and could have nicked it. This was one of those occasions where loosing doesnt feel so bad as you feel the players gave everything last night and for the most part were a match for the Daggers. Infact some of the passing we put together was applauded by their fans. All this so soon after the game on saturday too.

Yes. Some very attractive passing football which we seem prone to do when the pressure's off a little. It was the same in the Braintree friendly. I suppose having the confidence to play like that when the stakes are a bit higher is all part of becoming a really good team.

Result aside, It was a very enjoyable game to watch, our lads put in a fine performance, and our strength in depth is there for all to see.

Dagenham took their two goals well, and I thought their number 5, Shane Blackett, was motm. Without him I feel we would have scored another goal or two.

If we maintain that kind of performance for the rest of the season, I will be more than happy....well done lads

Taken from the Daggers

-----------------------

They looked very up for it.

Their goal came when Hogan came for a cross, dropped the ball and then pulled the striker down forcing him to miss his shot. Lucky not to be sent off really. Vinny John converted calmly.

Why don't we just put another outfield player on the bench, Hogan really does look incredibly dodgy.

Matt Batt looked good up front, quick and great strength and finish for the winner. Akurang took his goal really well, but picked up a stupid booking for running into someone having jsut got away with clattering on of their players.

They caused us a lot of problems down the right, with Alayle and Goodwin looking pretty dodgy at times, including one awful backpass from Goodwin.

Blackett cleared up a lot at the back and Sloma did well at left back.

------------------------------------------------

Unlucky lads - Good effort

Team was:

Worster

Macca - Blewitt - Swaine - Kerrigan

Whelpdale - Heffer - Hill(Burbridge) - Game

John(Elder) - Holland

Considering we rested 4 from Saturday it was a good performance against a strong Daggers side and we weren't far off from nicking it in the end. I think we ended up going three up front for the last 15. I'd like to know how thier keeper was not red-carded though, not even a yellow!

Top tannoy announcer, particularly the caravan weekend in Weymouth! Did you take notes Gazza?
