I have to admit that it's not the same for me, just at the moment, Rob. This segregation lark at away games is a pain in the backside and I don't like being treated as if I'm a hooligan from Cardiff, Millwall or Manchester United of the 1970s.

 

It 's great to watch t'lads in yeller & blue of course, but off the pitch I've seen too many good people drift away over the past couple of seasons.

 

Home games aren't much better for me, frankly. The clubhouse is now beyond a joke and I fear that it's irretrievable. Presumably this franchise thingy is season-long and if Don the Dog hasn't got 'it' by now, he never will.

 

Still. What do I know about anything?

Quite a nice friendly bunch at Crawley I thought, and a fantastic stadium. Nice bar, although £2.80 for a pint of lager and 70p for a bag of crisps it a bit steep!

 

They might also like to reduce their debts by employing a few less stewards, there must have been about 25 in a variety of day-glo colours. The only trouble-maker I saw was the idiot in the red devil costume whipping their supporters up into a frenzy when they eventually managed to beat the Mighty Saints by a solitary goal. Is he/she/it allowed to stand on the grass behind the goal like that?

Outside the ground there are two boards that advertise the next game. The idea is that people see them, and think I'll go to that, part with £12 and have a jolly good time.

 

I think SIH is suggesting the boards haven't been updated with out next fixture: Rushden and Diamonds.

I also noticed the Red Devil behind the goal and thought it a bit odd that this was allowed. Also at half time the Red Devil was diving around and churning the pitch up in the penalty area which we were about to defend, and it came as no surprise to me that the ball ended up bobbling all over the place in the second half. May be we should get 11 Roman Centurions as mascots for our next home game but instead of putting them behind the goal try putting them in front.

Let's pretend that you are a chap and debate your proposed team. How are we going to get the ball from the back four to the front two with that line-up? Where's Damian 'Damo' 'Batty' Batt? No place for Alexis 'Jack' Nicolas? The best combination - that's 'combination', i.e. two, or pair - up front last season were Lee Clarke and Simon Martin. Paul Hakim was on fire from March onwards when he re-gained his place in the side due to Simon's unfortunate injury.

 

Our problem at the moment is too much consistancy. We're consistantly not winning games.

 

Colin and Nick will sort it out, have no fear. But play Batt.

Have no fear? I'm afraid, actually very afraid, that Colin and Nick aren't able to sort it out. Because clearly they have been trying to do that since early September and look at the results. 'We' can put it down to injuries, bad luck, whatever. They have tried new players and new formations - neither have yielded results. So I just wonder what they are going to do differently?

It was always going to be a struggle this season, playing part-time in a League where almost every other club is full time. That creates more than one problem. Firstly, other sides are mentally and physically fitter than we are, because they are doing it every day, and that makes life difficult over the 90 minutes. Secondly, we aren't a very attractive proposition as a club to other players who want to play - and in particular, be paid - on a full time basis. So it was always going to be difficult to sign players in the event of injury, suspension, or non-performance.

 

The injury list has been horrendous, beyond anyone's nightmares. In addition, two or three players have not reproduced their form of last year yet and they have to step up to the plate and do it. Colin and Nick have to get the squad performing to the best of its ability and then, hopefully, results will come.

 

The players that Colin has brought in, on paper, in the circumstances of the transfer window thingy, were 'worth a look at' on paper. Several were not up to the task. So be it.

 

Colin and Nick will do the best they possibly can in all of the circumstances, and we can't ask for more than that.
