FLYING POSTMAN SET TO VISIT CITY

03 November 2006

Tim Harris is hoping that 'the Flying Postman' will arrive at Gloucester City in time for tomorrow's FA Trophy tie with Margate.Legendary speed demon John Williams was once known as the fastest player in the Premiership during his time with Coventry City after winning a televised contest.

And after stints with clubs including Wycombe Wanderers, York City and Kidderminster Harriers the 38-year-old is ready to ply his trade at Meadow Park.

"We've been in talks with John and hopefully he will sign in time to play tomorrow," said Harris.

"He's an old friend of a friend and I've know him since his Swansea days.

"We are lacking a bit of experience and we're light up front with both Jason Welsh and Jody Bevan out injured so he would be a great acquisition.

"He was at Weston-super-Mare up until three weeks ago but is set to come and help us in our hour of need."

Harris has not been helped by the unavailability of on-loan striker Troy Wood after his club Worcester City would not grant permission for the youngster to play in the Trophy for fear of being cup-tied.

Wood sat out the Tigers 3-1 defeat to Bishop's Cleeve in midweek, while Mike Fowler was also rested for the Gloucestershire Senior Cup tie.

"Mike's had a bit of a calf problem so we saved him for Margate but Neil Mustoe and Aaron Wilson were able to get 20 minutes each," added Harris.

"To be fair to Cleeve they were better than us on the night and it was disappointing to lose but we'll focus on tomorrow now.

"The good thing about that game was it gave Tom Webb and Lyndon Tomkins 90 minutes each following their recent suspension lay-offs.

"Now we have Jamie Reid suspended instead and Tom Hamblin has a virus though hopefully he'll be okay, we're a bit thin on the ground."

Opponents Margate were a Nationwide Conference club until 2004 when they were relegated due to ground grading.

The Gate were then docked 10 points for going into administration and suffered the further ignominy of demotion to the Ryman League but this season has started with six wins in 12 games.

Harris said: "Margate have had their problems but they're a strong, physical side who have done okay so far this season.

"But hopefully we will have the kind of support we have received all this season to inspire us to victory."
