Pure speculation?

Quecerasaha is right, you don't win prizes for being fourth in October. If we are still fourth in April Liam will deserve all the plaudits he gets.

In actual fact Liam has probably made a rod for his own back, before the season started most of our fans would have been happy with a mid-table position but now many will take anything less than a play-off place as a personal insult and no doubt Liam will get the blame.

I thought the club said this years budget is lower, unfortunately the league is decided on points not on how low your budget is. We have made a good start but the league position at the end of the season is the important one.

If we are still in the top ten I think Liam and the (mainly) youngsters he has brought in will have done brilliantly, even if we cannot maintain the good start I am still pleasantly surprised at the quality of the young players Liam has signed and hope that we can persuade them to stay for mext season.

At the start of the season I was seriously preparing myself for a struggle at the foot of the table, perhaps culminating in a 17th-ish placed finish. If/when we do fall from the dizzy heights we have now reached I will still be pleased with any finish above my original prediction. I am certainly not labouring under the delusion that we might go up this year and if there is anyone out there who will be annoyed at a top-half finish outside the playoffs, they need to have a word with themselves.

we are still out of the cup. so we are not that successful <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

What on earth that has that got to do with the success of the Trust I have no b****y idea.

It would be easy to say that very few chairman have the brains to go for a manager who is succesful at a lower level ahead of a manager who is a failure at a higher level, but then again that is no different to supporters wanting to sign players who have been rejected as not good enough by a struggling league club rather than players who have been outstanding at a non-league club.

Despite his stints at Wednesday and Southampton (both of which were ended unfairly early on the face of it), Sturrock can hardly be labelled a 'failure' for his sterling work at Plymouth.

True, my comment was more of a generalisation on the manager merrygoround whereby a manager sacked by one club immediately becomes wanted by other clubs who think he will bring them success.

Of course managers rarely make it to a happy retirement* and however succesful they may be if they stick around long enough it will all end in tears.

* Dario Grady excepted.

....and he cannot be labelled a "failure" at Sheff Wed either !!

Interesting to note that SWFC have won 3 & drawn one since Sturrock's departure, so which of the following statements apply ? :-

a) The same players who have been unbeaten in the past four games sold Sturrock short ( an opinion voiced by John Gregory).

B) Sturrock was not a motivator & therefore did not get the best out of his players. (Hmmmm....he bought most of them so they should be committed to the cause on their £10-15 grand a week !)

c) Sturrock's tactics were too defensive.

d) Sean McAuley ( temporary manager ) is the new Alex Ferguson ?

e) The SWFC Board have lost the plot

f) None of the above.

I'm f*cked if I know ( although I am erring towards e) slightly !!)

Time will tell ! Apologies to all for rambling on about SWFC.....H J won't be pleased !!

Cheers,
