To be fair Slarti I don't recall any of the people on this thread saying they wanted Daish to go.

Even in the death throes of last season I cannot remember calling for LD's head.
All I wanted was a change of tactics.
What we got was a change of personnel AND tactics.
And boy, has it worked.
Hands off Swindon, and anybody else.

Nice one CG....once again you have nearly got me buying an extra round !! Ever thought about entering politics ?

" I cannot remember calling for LD's head "...priceless !! That ol'
selective memory always comes in handy. Thanks for cheering me up yet again.....and before you ask...I will not be reviewing all your posts ( a la Harry J ) and quoting them again !

...oh yes....don't forget that you said that you were going to get the beers in for AndrewC, Redolent, me etc. at some stage !!

Hopefully Liam won't go, he's one of the best managers the club have ever had. If Liam did go it would be a shock and a shame, and perhaps a few of our players will leave with him in January?

Ridiculous hyperbole.

If Daish and Kimble are already 'legends', what does that make Andy Ford?

More evidence of short memories.

This post doesn't denigrate their achievements so far this season, but surely it's far too early to be bandying such terms about?

The football was awful. However, myself and others were clearly wrong - just as well really - but nobody could fortell this season's efforts in the league.

You, however, had the benefit of hindsight to post that comment.

Everybody always has the benefit of hindsight a more pertinent comment would be that those people who didn't jump on the Daish out bandwagon showed better foresight.
However as some of the less excitable posters have pointed out Daish hasn't actually achieved anything yet other than signing some promising youngsters.

It was an observation of the fickleness we all show not aimed at any particular individual F.F.

But as to the 'nobody could foretell this season's efforts in the league' and the 'You had the benefit of hindsight' comments.

We have currently played 17 matches and have 29 points, goals for 26 goals against 19. fantastic.

Last season after 20 matches we had 29 points, goals for 27 goals against 27. Not bad.

We have coming up two tough away fixtures at Morecombe and Cambridge followed by a home match against league leaders Oxford. If we don't pick up some points from those three matches, which are all eminently loseable, we will be in an almost identical position to the same time last season.

Found some.

You should read these, some of them are hilarious.

Jason Botley wasn't wrong in declaring we going through a major transition period at this juncture; we are changing from the most successful part-time club in England to one of the worst full-time teams.

I feel sad, but I am also embarrassed and bloody angry.

My guess is that Charlie will ask for a transfer by Christmas, and being desperately short of crowds and funds the club will sell him.

If going full time was only going to make a small difference, why go the whole hog so quickly.

My arguement is not with going full time, but as JC so eloquently put, don't try to keep up with the Jones'.

The net result is that we have lost 6 or 7 players who were

better than they are likely to be replaced with.

At least supporters like RR, FF WVN & myself etc do put up a case, instead of sticking our heads in the sand and waiting until next season.

Cannot complain about Kerr, Gooding and Fuller, but why get rid of Glozier and JJ. Of course, they know what LD is really li

e and may not have even wanted to stay - there are better managers to play under in Kent - scores of them!

The nail has been firm hit into the coffin lid for next season, I wonder if Slats would have signed a new contract tommorrow?

Don't despair, JC. We can only hope the board see past LD's p/t prejudices and insist on having some in the squad.

I have never seen you write so depressingly, but it will prove a real headache attracting fans to see a brand new and largely unknown team.

Who can tell along which road LD is taking us, but it is looking increasingly like a relegation road.

Don't get too disheartened, Darren, I know it is agony watching Fleet in their apparent death throes, but it cannot be very long before LD either falls on his own sword and resigns, or is shown the door, due to his failure to improve things. Either way he will need to have the summer of his life and make some extraordinary signings if things are going to get better, both on and off the pitch.

I would imagine season ticket sales are at an all time low awaiting developments, which will not help the cash flow through the summer.

Quote:
My vitriol against LD may have been curtailed, but my sentiment remains. I still believe he is the wrong man to take us onwards, and I , WVN, RR and RR have expanded on our reasons until it hurts. Perhaps a new Chairman at the helm will see that since Boxing Day a sequence of P22 W5 D5 L12 F18 A30 = 20 points @ a max of 66 is really a poor show.

See you Monday for some fun and to see a real Fleet team.

I have to admit, I may have been a tad callous at first. i'm trying to be a little more persuasive in my postings, using sound arguements to back up my thoughts.

Funnily enough, I see very few posters on here who actually thinks LD has turned out to be a good manager.

If I could be bothered I would post my own comment below each one of them but I think it takes something away if I do.

For a Trust secretary, Harry, you would make a crap prosecution barrister.

Can't see anywhere that I called for LD to be sacked. The worst I came up with was that on the form at that time, if it continued into this season, the board should consider parting company with him.

We WERE appalling, with some dreadful players.

We played horrible football, got awful results.

All 800 supporters at the fag end of last year wre disillusioned with the team and management.

Playing that style of football this year, with repeat results certainly would have let to LD's sacking, probably before now, as has happened at Crawley and Grays.

Many were calling for LD's sacking.

But: Nowhere did I say that "LD SHOULD BE SACKED".

I also said that he needed the summer of his life to turn things around.

This he did.

Therefore I actually still believe my postings were correct, and showed a bit of insight.

Given the bit I highlighted the question you have to ask is had you been the one that decides if Liam should go then the answer would have been yes.

Oh and I'm not Trust Secretary anymore.

At that time, had I been the Chairman, yes, I would have sacked him.

There would have been compelling reasons so to do, such as poor tactics, poor team selection, poor signings, poor results, awful football, diminishing gates, etc, etc.

Such action would probably been supported by 95% of the dwindling(at that time) fanbase.

I also added the caveat that he would need the summer of his life and some extraordinary signings.

On both of those counts he did.

Not sure about season ticket sales, but I suspect they were not extraordinary in the summer, evidenced by poor crowds at the start of the season, which are only now starting to recover (but still not enough for a full time team in 4th place).

You will note also I remain confidently optomistic and supportive of LD and AK so far this season, and will remain so as long as the product on the pitch remains as enjoyable as it has done (mostly) this term.

Harry is a very valuable member of the Board, he is not the Company Secretary as without being dis-respectful he like myself does not have the knowledge or expertise for the job, we have a solicitor as Company Secretary as many people do. Harry is the minute secretary, fund raiser and I believe is going to be our liaison between the Supporters Direct and our Board at their meetings which are held quarterly in London.

It is only because Harry and the other Board members work so hard that we are so successful.

Perhaps it is too early to tell, but how many times did Andy Ford (No offence to him) get us to fourth in the conference, respected by a lot of clubs and playing fluid, flowing football. Plus getting some league standard players at the club, in the meantime!

Last season Liam still had a few player's he didn't want, and with the low budget couldn't afford to get a lot of players in.
