Fleetfan makes a very good point here. I was surprised to see Goldman include G&NF in his list of poor sides. They have been a good solid Conference side for three seasons now.

What pisses me off is that a key player in a match watched by paying spectators is sent off in the early minutes for a 'handbags' offence. The whole tone of the game we paid to watch is then changed. YFC then spent the first half carrying out what appeared to be a team plan to kick City off the park. Hacks from behind causing physical harm only resulting in yellow cards when reds could have been given.

 

Refs always seem to want to deal strongly with the incidental offences like pushing or dissent but never with crude fouls. The last time I saw a ref get so agitated about hard tackles he sent three City players off at Kettering, in the FA Cup. I understand that the ref would have been Conf standard. It would be my opinion that the standard of refereeing in the CS was better than we have seen this year.

 

As for the FA Cup i have only seen us in the 1st round or higher 5 times in 35 years, I get the impression I am not the only one who thinks we are cursed in this competition.

I agree. We must be cursed. On my reckoning we must be the biggest club in non-league to have the worst record in the F.A. cup. Anyone have any stats on this? Interesting to note that after the game yesterday when the punch up was going on that a number of "non-officials" who looked more like mates of the players of YFC entered the field of play and started to head towards the brawl, before some officials turned them back. Don't suppose the ref will put that in his report.

Gravesend are no mugs now. They've done well to stay in the Conference for several seasons despite their resources.

Pretty much happens to them every year. They always get knocked out at this stage of the Cup by a lower division team. Probably why they do well in the league, no other distractions to worry about.
