Canvey Score

Played well today but our defence still seems rather dodgy at times and once again we conceded two bad goals.

Spirited fight back from 2-0 down though and certainly should have won it in the last 10 minutes or so. Can't believe that effort of Ruggy's went just wide.

Thought Jay Curran had a great game today. Looked good in the midfield and on the wings today. Both Dobbo and Ryan wwre combative and creative and Clyde Roberts had a great game on the right.

Fair play to the team today for sticking at it and eventually getting a result that seemed highly unlikely at one point. You could hear and feel the crowds frustration at times.

Felt Bury were a good side when the officials allowed both sides to get on with the game. They had a fair bit of pace about them and what they showed throughout most of the game was good movement off the ball which at times, particularly the first half, we lacked.

I felt wiseman had another game where he must have been happy with his general performance. Looked like he managed to get finger tips to the ball as it was nicely placed by the Bury player for their first goal. Felt Chris Bourne had one of his weaker games today and the first goal started from a mistake which left us with 3 players against 4. Felt West had one of his better games in central defence today and Curran covered a lot of ground. A well taken goal by Leon.

Game got niggly and nasty at times and I felt this was mainly down to the ref who didn't seem to be able to stamp his authority on the game and lost control on numerous occassions. Can't believe he had to be told the foul was commited inside the area by the linesman - Curran was well inside the area.

Overall the team salvaged a result today but we did create a lot more chances and once we got our heads up after the penalty we looked the more determined and started to push for the win.

Another tough game Tuesday night......

Despite gifting another goal away (why do we keep on doing this) i thought we played ok yesterday and showed a lot of spirit to fight back from 2 down and could and maybe should have taken all 3 points.

The Bury fans feel they were robbed and to be honest i`m not sure if it was a foul but i do think the incident was in the box. I don`t think the number 7 can dispute his 2 yellows and i thought as a team Bury knew when to give a foul away to break up the game, not pretty but something a lot of teams do and maybe something we need to adapt to?

I certainly wouldn't bet my house on it being a definite penalty but it was well within the box.

Wasn't sure if all the fouls were deliberate to break up the game or wheter the officials were just that poor.

Good point about breaking up a teams momentum by using a tactical foul - however, I'm not sure I agree with it's use by a Canvey side. It's not so bad when you are further up the pitch but when quite deep near your area it needs to be used wisely. You risk giving away free kicks in a dangerous area which, as per Wivenhoe, can easily be converted. It needs a knowledgable and wise head to make that call during a game.

I would always prefer to see a Canvey side playing attractive fotball but we all know it can`t always be that way.

As you say it takes a good judgement to decide when a foul is worth giving away for the good of the team but you see it happen at all levels of the game. I think Bury`s number 7 picked up his 2nd yellow because he was determined not to let Dobbo get into their penalty area, he paid the price by going off but it didn`t cost them a goal so to them it may have been worth it, had we scored from the free-kick it would have been a different story, it`s a tough call to make.

Agreed. Was an excellent finish and he's in fine form at the moment.
