Well Wivenhoe appeared to have beefed up their front line for this occasion with Steve Brown and Parminter (other teams beware)!

The game started ok enough with fairly bland early exchanges. On 15 minutes Ollie Sanders went out to gather the ball on the edge of his box and was adjudged to have fouled Dave Hunt, penalty. Ricci Crace stepped u and nailed it 1 – 0. Soon after Paul Campbell went down in the box to a head-butt by Jack Wignall, What does the ref do? Books Paul Campbell for complaining using the wrong vocabulary and Lee Townrow similarly. Jack Wignall (the captain) walked away all sweetness and light. Great example to the other players from a captain! Both Dave Hunt and Darren Spinks were playing well and Town had the measure of Wivenhoe in the first half.

Second half and Lee Smith was on for Darren Spinks and Wivenhoe came to take the game to Town. Unfortunately Town started sluggishly. JJ forced to earn his wages in the second half time after time with reflex and numerous other types of save. On 56 minutes justice was served with the lucky to be on the pitch Jack Wignall making a pass back header which Ricci Crace ran onto and nailed to the side of the keeper in a one on one situation 2 – 0. Town fans erupted. On 66 minutes Wivenhoe tapped home a goal. 2 – 1. Parminter received a second yellow card for a foul and walked 10 men. A Dave Hunt header sailed over the bar rats. David Hunt swapped with James Mackey. JJ saved again a superb header. Adam Gant began a lovely move from deep in a 1 – 2 with Ricci Crace. Shame the move broke down. JJ saved again. Ben Wake received a second yellow card – Wivenhoe went down to 9 men. The Manager and coach of Wivenhoe incensed at the second double yellow saw red and both are sent from the dugout. Dean Nyman on for Paul Campbell. Enfield Town cling on for a win. 2 – 1. Not our best performance but a rare home win!

A good first half but then in the 2nd half we did our best to throw it away, what happened? we looked totally disjointed again, Wivenhoe were first reduced to ten men & we struggled then when they were reduced to nine we failed to even produce one attack, in fact they had two excellent chances to draw level & could of even had a penalty late on.

Three points well accepted but will have to step up against Harlow.

There was definatly NO headbutt, PC went down like he had been hit by a Glasgow bouncer, the lino NOT the ref got it dead right.

Its pretty much been said. A good solid first half performance but we just failed to appear for the second. After going 2-0 up we seemed to sit back more and more allowing them to scoe. To be fair on Wivenhoe they should have taken all the ponts in te laswt 10 minutes as they missed two sitters. Three points but it was not convincing and Jim's face showed that at the end.

One other point. I know that the Wivenhoe manager was pretty hcaked off with the lino's performance (as was most of us too). However, there is no need to start having a go at Town fans and using the language he did, particularly as he was walking down our end of the pitch having been sent from the dugout. There are otehr grounds where this type of behaviour could have led to something nasty.

Why was the telly at Brimsdown showing the Watford v Spurs on the dodgy Arabic chanel yesterday? Surely real footy fans are more interested in seeing the half time results from around the country when we go in for our half time pints.

Because it's their facility?

The win was welcome but the performance, especially in the second half, was far from convincing.

Crace is the genuine goalscorer we have missed since - well since Daniel Clarke left really.

Velandia did OK yesterday, though he must get demoralised by the reaction of Peter Hammatt on the bench sometimes. PH goes ballistic whenever Velandia misses a tackle but he's a playmaker, not a tough-tackling midfielder. Hunt is that. Velandia is a confidence player and needs to be trusted with the ball. I think he will do really well for us this season, and give the front two or the wide men the service they need.

Good to see Negus back, though he will have to play well to get a starting place. His pace and stamina have been missed. I guess he'll go to left wing back in competition with Magona. Negus would get my vote.

I thought it was the Wivenhoe coach who was sent off, not the manager?? And to be honest, if we had been on the receiving end of some of the decisions, we would have been just as mad. The lino on the dugout side of the pitch made several shocking decisions.

Never mind - second in the league without playing well at home practically all season ........ Perhaps 4th or 5th is a truer reflection, given the games in hand some of the others have. And we haven't gone on any kind of consistent winning run - yet :-)
