elmsford today

Recommended Posts

It WAS crap. No desire, no fight, nobody up for it. Chelmsford were worth their win and we looked like we do in every cup game we play, absolutely shocking. The players have done very well in the league, but today was a chance to shine, to progress in the FA Cup and they blew it. Again.

Defence was abysmal... HOlmes for Chelmsford terrorised down the left first half and the Smiths looked all at sea. Distribution was poor, nobody in midfield took the game by the scruff of the neck, Keeling had a poor game and the forwards might as well not have bothered turning up for all they saw of the ball.

That was a shambles. There wasn't much to it except they wanted it more than we did.

And the timeless old GNFC question that is, 'Why hoof it to forwards playing a defence that is taller than them?'

We were devoid of confidence; how keeling can tear Conference standard full-backs apart, and then look beaten versus Ryman right-backs is beyond me.

The support was immense though, definately 300, could well have been more.

Alot of their fans were w*nkers, one chant, sing when they were winning, gloating as if they'd won the World Cup after 90 minutes, and some Stone Island wearing, Stella swigging racist pr*cks behind the goal in the second half. [To the referee Janier Singh] Bin LAden in disguise' Funny.

What a [****!!****] crock of [****!!****].

Jeff King did his homework before sodding off on holiday to Miami.

Chelmsford haven't played 5 in midfield this season but did today.

The player marking Keeling was told to just outjump him, "he doesn't win much in the air".

And Keeling didn't.

The FA Cup is what the armchair mob have heard of and yet again will see we're out.

Don't expect many of them to pay Stonebridge Road a visit during the rest of the season.

Todays performance was the same as the Stafford match except Chelmsford aren't as good as Stafford so we got away lightly with just the 1:0.

At least the high balls for Keeling to try and win a header where slightly better than the long ball from the halfway line hit straight off the end of the pitch which we were treated to so much of.

Unfortunate to see Lance carted off in an ambulance and I hope he recovers quickly but after searching long and hard the only positive I could find from today was Sam Motts performance. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/applaus.gif" alt="" />

'The player marking Keeling was told to just outjump him, "he doesn't win much in the air".

And Keeling didn't.'

If they can put 2 and 2 together, why can't we? I know they didn't seem to have weaknesses today, but that's because we played to their strengths- long ball! After the first two or three balls where Keeling was out-jumped, why didn't we think of passing it to his feet?

After the first five balls over the top, where Charlie was outmuscled and their keeper collected it, did we not think to try a more patient, ON THE DECK build-up?

Fair enough, Chelmsford played football in patches, but by-en-large they were a 'shovel' team- All of their defenders were chosen because they were good in the air and at hoofing. We should have played more one touch football and taken their strengths out of the game, and brought our strengths into it.

I hate this [****!!****] competition.

Looking at things a little more optimistically let us not forget that this is a Giant killing. "We know" I hear you cry but that’s what it is all about. Apart from the money which is just a bonus we haven't lost anything. Chelmsford are welcome to their Aldershot game, I'll look forward to playing them later in the season. Had they drawn a league one club then I would have been pissed off but as they didn't I don't really care.

After the game travelling back everyone was having there say and I agreed with much what was said but I just sitting quietly listening. We all agreed that we should revert back to 4-4-2 as we looked as uneven and unbalanced as ever today. Our Left wingback, Keeling, only attacks and doesn't defend yet Ricketts on the other side does the opposite.

I think we should just brush this result under the carpet and move on to Morecambe next week. I know it's hard to get over but remember the players and management probably read this forum so what ever comments are to follow I think you should remember the great moments they have given us so far this season, the great football they have been playing and our current position in the league.

A win up at Morecambe, who are about as consistent as a Conference referee, and everything changes in our rollercoaster season.

Chelmsford ground is a stark warning of how not to do things...Brian!

I cannot comment on the game as I wasn't there - nor did i hear it.

I will say that a good team with good palyers doesn't become crap overnight.

We are still a fine side, with a lot of young , inexperienced players, who are probably very ashamed, humbled and embarrassed at the moment.

Let LD pick them up in time for Morcambe, & let us get back to doing what we do best, playing the ball on the floor and getting unexpected results.

I cannot wait for Oxford!

Also to follow up some of the comments on the Chelmsford forum about us being bad losers I don't think they should tar us all with the same brush. They didn't like your comments KShep, which I don't entirely agree with, but I don't think they should label us all under the same banner because of one forumers thoughts. They were the better team today and I'm sure we'd all agree but I think where KShep is coming from is that they attracted a lot of "Stone Island" wearers. Yobs who do nothing for the good of football and shout racist comments. With the normal Chelmsford fan I have no grudge, they were the better team today and good luck for the future but the yobs stood behind the goal bring nothing but a bad name to football and to Chelmsford City Football Club.

Harry J I'll be the first to admit I'm biased and a bad loser, and I know I'm picking holes in them and trying to find excuses for today. I also know we'd (or I'd) have been the same had I been the killer in a giantkilling, so I'm sorry to Chelmsford fans for coming across as a sore-loser tw@t! But I think they'd agree with me on the racist drunks, then again, they're not a representation of the club, and I'm sure real Chelmsford fans resented them as much as I did.

Harry, I think your views about we haven't lost much ,and we should focus on the positives, are good, it'll do the team more good to focus on Grays, Tamworth, the Exeter comeback etc this season, rather than a normal FACup giantkilling.

I was unfortunate to listen to snippets on Radio Keny today. Especially when the main cup match was Grays v Bromley????The adjectives used for our performance were endless. However, as said before this was a giant killing. The further you get in the cup the worst it hurts when you get knocked out. I've enjoyed all those special cup games Villa, Huddersfield etc etc.. but in reality the big pay day against a huge club is like rocking horse poo really. Now we can focus on a play off place and hopefully be playing against the bigger clubs week in week out.

Come on you Fleet!!!!!

Re Harry's reply on us being bad losers, I'd have to agree. I was totally pissed off but as I walk out it was disappointing that some of our fans were giving the Chelmsford fans grief with chants and gestures.

They out played us, out fought us and well deserved their victory - am I happy - no, but as a conference team lets have a bit more class!

As for the match, we were just crap, never looked like getting in the game.

Always next year!

Very poor today.

Lacked the spirit and passion we show in all our league games (excluding Stafford).

We knew what they would come out like, all guns blazing and they did. I can't understand why we weren't ready for it. Why kick aimless long balls to a Striker who is never going to win them against massive centre-halfs? I just don't understand how Daish didn't see how the game was going to pan out. You could tell after 2 minutes we were going to struggle.

If I could see it, I don't know how Daish didn't.
