The end of the Non league paper

Recommended Posts

I have read that this Sunday will be the last edition of the Non League paper. Have to say that is sad news, I do get a copy, even though IMO it gives too much space to the conference league (maybe that was the problem?)

The more coverage of the non league game the better, I wonder if anything else will be released?

FFS where has anyone read that the NLP will not continue...Chinese whispers rule ko?

From Sunday fortnight, the NLP will be a 64/72pp pull-out inside the League Paper. Ergo you will pay 20p extra for nearly 150 pages. The paper is onwards and upwards, so do not listen to stupid rumours...

I have a serious question about todays NLP in that the front page story about the F.A Cup draw starts with the sentence "Giant-killing specialists Yeading drew former European champions Nottingham Forest...."

Now I'm not knocking Yeading's achievements in the F.A Cup but just exactly how do they qualify as giant killing specialists and could someone name precisely which giants they have killed over the years?

Here's a link for their complete F.A Cup record...top website actually. Perhaps someone would like to identify the giants..obviously there is one obvious one in season 1991/2 <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Yes I used that site for the FA Vase details of ourselves and opponents.

How come they dont list Yeading history before the 80's?

They have come a long way in a short time, will be in interesting to see how they do with a new manager. Away to Forest is dream draw

I think before 1980 they were playing junior football and the league they are in isn't high enough to be covered.

Yes you are right, just took a look at their club history. It's amazing how the non league landscape has changed since the days of amatuer football. Clubs like Yeading, Northwood, for eg have risen up the leagues whereas older more established clubs have stagnated or in some cases folded. You look at at club like Hendon or even Edgware and they have underacheived for years, compared to the crowds and standing they had in the amatuer game years ago.

Good point Gav, and just look at the whole Walthamstow Avenue/Leytonstone/Ilford and Dagenham merger...some great old names gone there.

Maybe Rhodes has a part-time job as headline writer for the NLP?

The though had struck me but there was no mention of pulled up trees, huge rashes, or simultaneous December bank holidays so I assumed it wasn't him.

What and do me out of a job? The bloke who wrote the giant-killing intro actually asked me how many league clubs they had beaten..doh.

Coupwotcoup - Was there a Non League paper today, I couldn't find one anywhere. I know you said that it will soon become part of the League paper but what about in the interim period particularly as it's the FA Cup next week and I'll be keen to read about the match of the round, namely Burton v Tamworth.
