The Tour

I see from todays`s sports news that the route for the `07 Tour de France has been published albeit in a generalised form. The two wheelers will be making their way through Kent from London to the Channel Ports to cross to Sachaland. The route passes through our own little Blighty and I can`t believe they will be coming down the A2! Does this mean they will in fact be passing our hallowed turf? If this is the case there can`t be many football grounds the race passes by. If they do whiz past perhaps something could be made of this by the club or supporters? The bar could open & the club make some money especially if its a nice day (Hirsty downing a few stongbows springs to mind). I might get down there early & chalk a few slogans on the tarmac !

The road past the ground is the A226, so if they are coming down the A2 then they will go nowhere near the ground. Mind you they will have fun in the roadworks which I believe are due to go on until January 2008.

We could open the bar anyway, purely as a fund raising exercise for the club, in honour of the race, and just get p*ssed ??

T-Shirts could be printed with some sort of race promotion on the front ( not stick your 'kin yellow up your a*se.....poor taste for the tour de franglais !!) and Let's All Drink For GNFC on the back ?

Just a thought.....

I believe they go right throught the town centre, so will probably rejoin the A2 at Pepperhill.

After reading the letour.fr website they actually go through Gravesend to Medway, meaning if they are going though the town centre, which I've heard they will, they will break the one-way system and thus come off at Pepperhill, still meaning they miss the ground. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

Thats my theory anyway

they will be no match for Hooky and Daishy on their tandem.

Up the Fleet , altogether now :

#Daishy , Daishy, give us a wave or two

we're going crazy because of what you do

You're starting to make a difference,

we're moving up the conference,

Oh what a treat, Daish is on a seat ,of a bicycle made for two#

What are the pre-race odds on Hooky and Daishy ???

Personally , I think Hooky's fitness levels leave a lot to be desired ... he's never started a game this season ... or last ... or any season , come to think of it !

PS To those of you that think he starts EVERY game , only the dulcet tones of "Cheer , Cheer " can do that !

  • 7 months later...

Well we have had an exciting few weeks of news since the season finale which ever way you view it so I thought it time to drag up my original entry to highlight this years Tour de Ebbsfleet ...er...France to continue the party mood (if indeed that is the way you feel). Looking at the GBC website I believe I can confirm the pedal pushers will in fact be passing our main entrance on 8th July bound for the stage finish at Canterbury and as I previously stated there surely cannot be many Football Grounds that have this honour. Bearing in mind the massive media coverage this (I am told the 3rd largest worldwide sport event)spectacle receives perhaps we can project the mighly Ebbsfleet someway that will be noticed even if it all over in a fleeting (pun) glimpse. On the continent Jonny Foreigner chalks massive messages on the tarmac which are picked up by the airborn cameras - not that the boys in blue here would be to happy with this sort of activity. Failing that how about beers allround at the ground for supporters who wish to spectate on the day?
