i made my senior team debut in 1979 for st johnstone.

i then transferred to Sunderland in 1981 for £300,000.

i made my international team debut against holland in 1986.

i scored my country's only goal in the European championships in 1996.

in 1997 i became my country's highest scorer with 20 goals.

my most recent manager was bobby robson where my strike partner was Ian Wright
