You are still arguing SU and you are totally wrong. At 4:00 pm it was not raining and if there had been no more rain the game would have gone ahead as the pitch was being got ready. And in any event what is this long journey you all had to make.

If you left Hornchurh at 6:00pm and went via the North Circular you would have got there on time. I accept that the M25 was a bit more difficult.

I left my house (Hemel Hempstead) at 5:15 yesterday and was at Victoria by 6:35. I was a bit annoyed as I was 5 minutes late for a meeting. That is not as far as from Hornchurch to Haringey and whilst you might have got a little held up around Edmonton/Bowes Road you would still have made it easily.

You just want to have a pop like you do at Canvey Island and Romford.

as a player you would never leave to get to a game at 6pm in rush hour. never going to happen.

with the amount of rain over the last week, if it was of at 6 then it should be off at 4:30.

ressie cap/ league games are few and far between so why not just call it off anyway and play it on another date.

Another thing so what that it was the reserves. Those reserves want to play for "the Town" and they were deeply disappointed they couldn't impress. It might be that your reserves are just not up to it and have no commitment to Hornchurch.

steph that is the most pathetic arguement i have heard so far on this thread, our ressies are not up to it,they are top of the bloody league!!
Alot of our players and fans are dissapointed we couldn't come down,me more so than most as i missed our league clash and wanted to meet a few people but i knew from the comments made on monday/tuesday that should there be any more rain then the game would of been a farce had it gone ahead and neither club would want to play on a flooded pitch.

Go and spit your dummy out elsewhere Uncle Urch these things happen in football .The weather is in the lap of the gods not ours . And dont tell me its the first time something like this has happened because it aint and you know it mate . your just some one who wants to wind up a rival by insinuating that our club is not competantly run . As for you not knowing - well you must have been aware of the doubt if you read this message board . If M E was not confident he would have informed you in time. The heavens opened again later and it was out of his hands . Now bog off ,And get real ,AND Dont forget to pick your dummy up .

Let me try and set the record straight.

At 4:00pm there had not been any significant rain & the pitch should have been perfectly capable of staging the game. However, by the time I arrived at 5:15pm it was clear that it was not. I understand that part of the problem at Haringey is that there is a stream that runs under the pitch, pretty close to the halfway line. That causes water to come up, rather than down when its raining, having picked up water from wherever the stream comes from. The new drainage that Haringey has installed can do nothing about that. What actually happened is that Haringey Borough requested that the fixture didn't proceed. All parties were immediatley alerted.

Now, I think Unc is being a bit disingenuous about kitman and managers being at the ground. I understand Hornchurch were unable to contact their kitman until he was almost at the ground, which is unfortunate. I don't recall seeing any of the management team, and I waited at the ground until 7:00pm in order to explain the circumstances to anybody who didn't get the message. Only one person turned up by then, and he was an Enfield Town player! Hopefully that means that both sides fans' networks worked well, too.

The point about Haringey effectively calling the game off is important, as it allowed the referee and his officials to not have to travel (and thereby saving the club the fees that would have been due) to inspect the pitch aand call the game off at say 7:00pm by which time many abortive journies would have been made.

Unfortunately, the Capital League rules prevent games being called off before the day of the match. Had an official looked at the pitch up until 4:00pm, I don't believe he's have called it off.

Earlier in the week Hornchurch did ask to switch the game to tonight, and to host it if required. But as its the ETFC AGM tonight that wasn't an option, which was explained and readily accepted. I imagine, however, that the 24 hour deferral had as much to do with Hornchurch playing a friendly on Tuesday evening as long range weather forecasting. It was also notable that the intende side was described as 'scratch', which I imagine wouldn't be the same that has seen them make such an impressive start to the season.

So in summary I think everybody was disappointed that the game couldn't proceed, not least those whospend their own time getting the programme, ready/printed etc, and perhaps I'm guilty of either being too optimistic or trying too hard to get the game on. But, I'm not at all clear what (within Capital League rules) could have been done differently.

Any suggestions would be genuinely welcomed.

my suggestion is that instead of trying to explain it away with peurile excuses and (from others) juvenile insults... common sense should prevail.....it was a capital league game not the fa trophy semi finals...

steph,i have it on good orders you are something to do with running the supporters club(i may be wrong!),well i hardly think calling other teams supporters(and owners)childish for expressing their views on a match that was postponed will do your fans and club much good.It would be far better to just say that you have taken the comments on board and noted them rather than in fact you and sob hurling comments like "childish" to opposing fans,i am sure enfield town will be given the usual good welcome that other fans have down at the bridge but with your stance on this and the insults you are now throwing back i can assure you that the welcome is gradually dwindling

Lets try to keep this civil.Your welcolme could gradually dwindle at our plcae if Hornchurch fans come on our forum and bandy words about like 'Disgrace/[****!!****] outrageous/Amateur' towards our club.

The good will and banter between our clubs in the past has been good.Lets keep it that way.

Regarding Steph. He doesn't run the Supporters Club.He is just a loyal fan who's Company generously sponser Towns away kit. He's normally an affable fella,i can only presume he is in a unusually grumpy mood today.

must be in a grummpy mood,i thought he was a bird the way he was going on,wrong time of the month and all that!

This is the childish comment.

"but 3-4pm should be the latest as i am sure there would be 20-30 urchins who would of been in attendance as well as players, relatives and officials"

So every time there is rain an individual is supposed to make a decision some 4-5 hours before K.O. as to whether a pitch is playable. As I say grow up SU and put your brain in gear.

1) You are suggesting that a non-league club should pay for somebody to be at the ground kicking their heals just to make a decision that a pitch is or is not playable 4-5 hours later.

2) You are suggesting that that individual has better skills than the people at the met office and can accurately predict the rain fall for the next 4-5 hours.

3) As well as being a genius weatherman this individual is able to be a top notch geologist and can understand the drainage qualities of the pitch.

As for your comments about time of month etc. It is a pity that Nikki or Mrs Happy are not on here to educate you in female physiology. Perhaps SL can put you right.

Women have a particular set of hormones present for 25% of their lives and therefore have to be accepted as "the time of the month" being an actual part of their personality. It is one of the things that make them interesting and your comments illustrate that you have little knowledge of basic human biology.

Perhaps you should listen more when you go back to school next week you will find that it helps you to look at practical matters rather than the fatuous idealogical world you seem to inhabit. Or would you rather continue playing with the "Sims"

Can we put this post "to bed" now please. I think SOB explained the situation adequately.

We know these things do happen in football & a lot of the times us people that "DO" on Matchdays have the decision taken out of our hands. Yes it is very frustrating for everyone concerned. You have got to feel for the lady at Haringey who had already bought all the gear for the players refreshments. I know how she feels cos that has happened to me several times in the past. The thing is with food preparation it is not a five minute thing, you can't just rustle up a boardroom & refreshments with a wave of your hand.

Anyway that's my 2 bobs worth, off to start the preparation for tomorrows game, Bread Pudding here we come!!!!

grow up mate, all i am suggesting is that knowing there was more rain and your pitch was unplayable on tuesday due to being under water it wouldn't be rocket science to cancel the game and play it at a later date, who really wants to play on a boggy pitch if you don't have to,or perhaps you would of liked to as maybe your ressies thought they would get their best result playing in thick mud!

Most of the fans who may of come over would of probably done so from london after work and a 6pm cut off meant that they may of left the office before this time, luckily for some we had our tannoy man texting those who he knew their number to tell them it was off,i got a text at 6.10.

Think it is you who needs to grow up.A first team game i could understand leaving it as late as possible but for a capital league game, come on mate!

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm. With Mrs H it sometimes feels like its 75% of the month

I agree with SL. SOB has put a detailed version of events. We are all dissapointed about the game not going ahead. I was looking forward to it and meeting a few AFCH fans that I haven't met yet. Let's put this thread to bed and look forward to our next meeting.
