for 36 hours now we have been asking about the harringay pitch and have not recieved a straight answer until this morning when we were told the game was definately on....(we even offered to play the game at our place)

just before 6pm tonight with our kitmen and managers there at the ground and the players and supporters in transit we were told it was off....

do your managers have any idea what they are doing....?

full marks by the way to mark emblem who tried desperately to get the pitch ready...

fckn outrageous [****!!****] up and amateur to boot... <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/mad.gif" alt="" />

surely that was meant to be ironic gazza..... <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" />

the point I was making is that your football club at capital league level is run by incompetent people...tonight was easily avoided and we saw it coming and our attempts to avoid the clusterfck was ignored and travelling across london in rush hour traffic and players and staff taking time off work early is not funny and avoidable had someone shown some fckn savvy...

now do you understand....our club have never and would never have allowed that to happen so late...totally inconsiderate in my personal opinion...

6pm....are you sure.. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/mad.gif" alt="" />

Now I don't know what state the pitch was in at 6 o'clock but if, say, at 4pm it's playable, what do you expect the club/any referee to do?

If any game was borderline with 4 hours to kick-off I'd expect the home club to be doing their damndest to make the pitch ready, not say "ah well, it may rain some more, let's call it off", in my opinion that's what should happen from Premiership level down to semi-pro.

Of course no-one is (or should be) pleased you and your staff/team/fans had a wasted journey but I refer you to my previous paragraph. Every season there are many incidents of late postponements (seem to recall a southern team going to the north east in the Premiership last season only for a v. late calling off) and whilst it's a giant pain it happens.

Amateurish? Unless I'm a way off with my take on the events of today, short of installing a roof over the pitch, there wasn't a great deal more could be done. We don't control the weather.

If by amateur you mean 'unpaid' — well in terms of the Reserve administration, management and players you're probably spot on old fruit.

In your many other posts you seem to be a semi-sensible individual and it's a shame you seem to think our club has let itself down so badly. Mark comes on here I believe and could probably do a better job than me of defending our efforts, unless, as I said before, my understanding of today's events is wide of the mark.

I do feel sorry for all those Horchurch staff and fans that travelled.Idealy a definative yes or no by the ref before the away team travel,is always preferable. But saying that,i can count on at least 20 occasions in the past where a ref has OK-ed a game at 5.30-6.00,only to call it off at 7.00-7.30.

I'm sure the fact the Town reserves have to play on someone elses ground does help,or the fact that in wanting the game to go ahead and attending to the pitch all day,we may have been over optimistic with regard to the chances of the game going ahead.

Those that went to Aylesbury many moons ago for a cup tie. Will know the pleasure of having a game called off at the last minute, having had the OK by the ref to travel. It happened there on three consecutive visits.

i must say i agree with unc,i got home at 4pm and went to sleep as i was sure after all the comments made over the last couple of days and the amount of rain we had today that the game wouldn't go ahead.I know it is sometimes hard to predict this weather but the forecast has been bad for a few days now and they said there would definatly of been rain today and knowing that i think the game should have been given a 3pm deadline so people could of been contacted,to find out at 6pm is a bit off as i am sure the 3 hours from 3-6 wouldn't really have made a difference. As unc said full marks to the ground staff for trying but 3-4pm should be the latest as i am sure there would be 20-30 urchins who would of been in attendance as well as players, relatives and officials

at least i got to watch man utd struggle with crewe!

nuff said perhaps and as always there are good hardworking people who try but I am still miffed by the indifference of the ET management to our frequent attempts to deal with this obviously looming problem.....common sense over reserve games counts for much midweek..

we move on... <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/bootyshake.gif" alt="" />

Not only Aylesbury but anybody recall going to Maidenhead 3 times a few years back.

Dont be so childish SU at 4:00pm the pitch was surely playable and as such could not have been called off then. Should someone from town been stationed at the ground between 4 and 6 supposiing the rain stopped at 5 the game would surely have taken place.

Our players and staff had to make the trip as well.

Who remembers going to Southend Manor and the referee calling the game off at 2.30pm for a 3.00pm KO on a lovely sunny day?

How about Torrington who came all the way from Devon to find that it rained so heavily overnight that we thought about calling in the RNLI to rescue the referee!

It is always difficult to predict the weather as Michael Fish knows.

steph,it was blatently obvious from the postings yesterday that the game would not be played should there be more rain this afternoon,it would not have been rocket science to look at the weather and see that there was rain & high winds predicted for the south east and london this afternoon

sorry if you think that post is childish but i think your reasoning is somewhat childish as well. The rain was forecast for all afternoon and the weather across the region was 100% chance of rain this afternoon.I go to all the capital league games but at 3pm today knowing the weather and the problems with the pitch as of yesterday i decided to go home after getting soaked after a spot of twitching on the thames estuary and have a kip and forget about going enfield town as i was pretty sure the game would not have gone ahead,it wasn't really rocket science!

Also this was a capital league game and not a league game,i could possibly understand a league game being decided as late as possible but for a reserve fixture it seems pointless playing the game unless the pitch is absolute fine. Its not as if there is likely to be fixture congestion in the capital league, last time i checked there was about 8 teams!

i also find it insulting that i am considered childish while unc who made the original observation is not.I wonder why, would it be that i am merely a fan while Unc is somewhat different!

we are all equal mate and the only childish post made on here tonight was not yours...or mine...

I made my point and churlishness instead of apologies reign supreme....I would have been red faced with embarrasment had our club treated another this way over a reserve team fixture...

leave it...tain't worth it....

we move on...

So we should have postponed the game on the basis of the weather forecast? <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/shrug.gif" alt="" />

Well it was a similar forecast last Saturday so I purchased a new set of waterproofs, only to play 18 holes with a bloke (who shall remain nameless)impersonating Tiger Woods wearing a pair of shorts in glorious sunshine!

So I will look at the forecast for Saturday & if it predicts rain I will let the wife know I can go shopping with her as the match will be called off then. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/doah.gif" alt="" />

Sorry that the etfc fans / management cant see this but unc totally right in this situation the game was all but off on tuesday according to your web site and common sense should prevail where reserves are concerned ..... that pitch has always for as long as i can remember had problems when there is bad weather so either it was going to be played at afch or not at all i do think it is a disgrace premier league games called off at 6pm yes capital league i dont think so

No but the pitches are completely different,we were told on monday that the pitch was partly under water,it doesn't take a genius to work out that should the same pitch get more rain tuesday and wednesday to the extent it did then the game wouldn't go ahead. Its a capital league game so it can be played at any time really as there are not that many fixtures to be played.Face it,the game should of been given a 3-4pm deadline, and knowing there would definatly have been more rain after that should of been called off then.
