Good Spotting Maidstone!

Interesting post on another's Forum ....

"Saturday's FA Trophy tie between Chelmsford City and Maidstone United was delayed by 15 minutes after Pat Mullin, Maidstone's 'keeper spotted that the penalty area appeared too small. This was brought to the referee's attention and both penalty areas including penalty marks and goal areas had to be remarked before the game started. Does anyone know of any other pitches at this level (Chelmsford are in the Ryman Premier) being incorrectly marked?

Ironically, Chelmsford missed a stoppage time penalty and Maidstone won the tie 2-1. Could it be that their strikers were used to the penalty mark being closer to the goal?" ...

A genuine mistake???? <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

I know the Chelmsford groundsman. Whoops!!!

It could only happen in Chelmo.

I think you will find that a Concord match was called off last season when one of the goals was too low - they had got new holes for the base of the goals, and these were larger than the old ones - hence the crossbar was several inches too low.

In 1954 the Barkingside v Romford ESC match was also voided when the pitch proved to be several yards too short. The match was awarded to Romford, (although is made no difference as Romford had won 2-1 anyway).
