Best Value Players ?

Recommended Posts

As it was a wet Sunday afternoon (and I need something to take my mind off Saturday's debacle) I decided to devise a little computer programme to see which of city's players gave best value to the team in terms of points, goals for and goals against. I expect a professional statistician would knock holes in my theory but anyway the results were as folling:

BEST VALUE AT TOP DOWN TO LEAST VALUE AT BOTTOM

(players had to have started at least 3 games)

Defenders

Elphick

Seeby

Theobald

Flynn

Oku'hae

Batt

Midfield

Marwa

Clarke

Wilde

Hann

Davis

Seeby

Nicolas

Cracknell

Strikers

Martin

Hakim

Clarke

Jackman

Based on this the team would be:

Bastock

Seeby

Elphick

Theobold

Flynn

Hann

Davis

Marwa

Clarke

Martin

Hakim

It would appear that Seeby is better value in defence and that Clarke is more effective in midfield. It also seems that Batt's presence weakens the defence (although this is not to say that this is made up for when he goes forward)

Just shows how misleading some statistics can be, CS. You probably need to weight the values against the quality of the different opposition for a start. At least Bastock and Elphick are right but Marwa and Martin? And Batt is probably one of the best rb/rwbs we have seen down at the Park in a very long time. I'd agree on 7 of your starting line up, based on the current squad.

Batt instead of Hann, Nicolas instead of Marwa, a new left-sided midfielder who tracks back instead of S Martin and you've got a team.

Batt instead of Hann I agree with.

I also agree with Nicolas instead of Marwa - but long term I think we could do better.

Up front I a big old fashioned centre forward is needed to hold the ball up to bring the midfield into play. Hakim would also thrive on knock downs in the penalty area.

I like others know nothing about football <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

I'd say they are the least of our worries. They looked pretty good together against York City. When they don't get any service, as in the Grays game, it makes interplay somewhat difficult. IMO Batt should play at RB. What we are really missing is an experienced midfield general in charge of things but I'm afraid they don't grow on trees.

His statistics show that Clarke performs better when he's played in a midfield role than when he's played up front.

No they show that he has been [****!!****] in attack, He hasn't been any good in midfield either it just happens that when he's played there that Hakim has still performed !

i would be inclined to play 3 at the back gary dave and magnus or (b.martin) damien r wingback lee left wingback (scott when fit)chris as a holding midfielder ahead of him tom and lee with paul and elliot up front.no mention of my adopted son but the the team would benefit from patrick replacing seebs as the holding midfielder.this team would more than hold it's own imo
