Hertford Town 6 Ruislip Manor 2

Recommended Posts

I forgot to mention on HFTCones behalf that Swayslands penalty was well struck and although he went the right way even the combined talents of Gordon Banks, Ray Clemence, Peter Shilton, Jan Tomaszewski, Frank Swift, Sepp Maier, Paul Cooper, Joe Corrigan, Phil Parkes, Fabien Barthez, Paul Robinson, Fatty Foulke, Peter Schmeichel and Lev Yashin wouldn't have kept it out.

And yes I have read something similar before

Lato - You have been reading my report of the legendary Hertford Town v Kentish Town friendly, I'm extremely flattered.

Yes I glanced through the programme you sent upto Hertford. You seem to have gone for quantity of content over quality of content to be honest.

And to call apre season friendly 'legendary' is another example of your remarkable capacity for hyperbole.

Well again I'm flattered that you actually picked up the programme to 'glance' through and that Hertford had it on display, I didn't think there was such an interest in Kentish Town. I do not understand your observation about quantity of content over quality of content at all, I have not padded it out for the sake of it and included colour match photos which I don't believe any other SSML Club's do.

it wasn't on display..more sort of lying around being used at one point as a coaster.

Colour photos nice but not unique...we used them in 2004/5.

My observation is based around one you made yourself somewhere about putting all previous match reports in to pad it out...I'll try and find the exact quote.

I personally find any programme that has things in different fonts and sizes somewhat lazy on the part of the editor who has just cut and pasted from other documents. And to add quantity just to 'outdo' another club is a bit petty when the quality of the content could be improved.

To be honest all a programme needs is the line ups, a league table, a few words about the game and latest league news, some info about the other club abd some recent match reports and league results. Anything else is superfluous (check spelling) and at the discretion of the editor and how much time they want to spend on it.

Lato - You are being somewhat pernickety as I don't think font sizes matter that much, I concentrate more on trying to fit something compactly and neatly onto the one A5 page as you will have seen from the lengthy match reports which are a hugely popular read, I don't put them in for the sole aim to pad out the programme as would be the case with Hoddesdon. I'm sure the likes of HTFCew, AWK and Gavin will agree with me that a programme is an important part of a matchday process and a statement for that Club, you are not a programme editor so won't appreciate what is involved and the meticulous care, attention, dedication and love that is put into its production normally over a full week prior to the next home game.

Good desk top publishing tip Rhodes - never mix your fonts. size yes, font type no.

I remember reading somewhere that all a programme needed was a teamsheet. Personally I don't think Lato is wrong with what he says, a programme should include a teamsheet, league table and fixture list/results as a minimum and anything else is an extra.

Just like you though Rhodes, I like to add more to that and make it firstly relevant to The 61 FC (reserves, thirds etc) as well as have more information in it about not only the opposition but also the SSML in general.

Yes that's spot on AWK, Lato wouldn't know about the lengths we go to and the personal pride we take in our respective programme productions.

To be fair, when i went on a dtp course they suggested you should use different font types. Its all down to personal opinion really.

That surprises me. Do you like the effect of mixed font types on the same page AWK?

I didn't realise you mean't on the same page Horace, though to be honest I do on certain pages mix in the very handy "courier new" font which I think comes out looking ok, but as a general rule I would try to have the same font throughout the same page.

Rhodes I demand an immediate apology because as usual you are wrong. Yes I am not a programme editor now but I was RMFC programme editor between 1996 and 2000 and again from 2003 and 2006. I also came 97th in the National Wirral Survey for the 2004-5 season therefore I think I know a little bit about programme editing including exactly how long it takes to do. Remember Manor play home games on Monday so in order to meet my own high standards and get an upto date programme (latest league table, appearances and Saturday match report)on a Monday I would often have to go straight home after a Saturday game go straight to the computer to update everything for the game I had to prepare a programme for less than 48 hours later. Oh yes and then I had to print it, collate it and staple it.

So please don't talk to me about programme production as I know the pain.

Hey look RHodes..here is a piece I wrote on the thread titled 'Programmes' on 16th July

"I am biased as I used to do the RMFC programme but I always thought the Hoddesdon Programme was vastly overated. It was very much a case of quantity over quality. I counted it once and there were seventy pages in it that were totally superfluous - I mean who needs a seven page history? and details of how the reserves did last year spread over two pages.

I also had little time for any programme that just used copies of league tables from the bulletin and copied fixtures from it. I know it could be argued that there is no point duplicating work but it at least shows the effort if it looks like your own work."

HTFCew - I'm sure Ashburton Grove will meet with SSML criteria if I can swing it.

They could lock you up Rhodes if you continue with this insanity. Even if Arsenal were to permit another club to play on their hallowed turf, do you realise the cost's involved in staging a game there?
One game would cost you more than a whole season's budget! Remember how sharing at Vicarage Road ruined Wealdstone, costing them millions?
On less surreal note, you also have to have had the groundshare in place BEFORE you qualify for promotion, so Hendon would be your only bet, that's if you have a proper groundshare agreement in place with them. Otherwise you're stuffed and wasting your time.

We have a theory that Rhodes is trying to mislead and hoodwink people slightly here Horace. Notice how he is always careful to say Ashburton Grove and he never says the Emirates Stadium. Is there another sports facility in the area with an Ashburton Grove address that they could use I wonder. Technically then he would be correct.
