Please please tell me we are not to have Sir David and Lady Posh.

What on earth outside of self-seeking glory has Beckham done to achieve a knighthood?

We, as a rule only grant the knighthood to high achieving skippers or players.

 

So apart from the oft-quoted goal against Cyprus what has he achieved for England. What have we won? Where were we desperately unlucky to lose with Beckham commanding the field of play?

 

He was a moderately talented international with a world class ability to flight the ball from right to left over five or fifty yards. He also had the knack of picking himself for England when injured and thereby costing other professionals an opportunity of earning England caps.

 

He could not:

 

1. Run Fast other than to gain photo opportunities.

2. Kick with his left foot.

3. Tackle.

4. Dribble.

5. Head the Ball.

 

Please no not now not ever.

O come on Pabird, give the guy some credit, he did wonders for escalating the awareness and importance of male grooming - TART !

 

I thought he was an awesome motivator and showed a good command of leadership. Personally I would prefer if he were still in the England squad in light of CURRENT available alternatives (thank god we've got a rest period).

If it wasn't for David Beckham, then none of this ego business would have gotten into football like it has when he paraded around from 1996 onwards and we might have a football team that cares more about winning than looking good and maybe winning as they try not to mess up their hair.

But he failed to motivate or perform in any of the major tournaments in which he played.

He and Sven were a perfect combination for qualification games but abject failures in the big stuff.

 

In two major tournaments he played whilst declaring “after” we were knocked out that he was unfit? Well thank you David.

 

He hogged every photo opportunity including being first to any England goal scorer, in fact no one scored for England during David’s reign who has not got David rapped around his neck in the celebratory pictures. (It was the only real pace he ever showed)

 

Of the current players many are more talented but we do lack a natural leader, John Terry maybe but not good enough to be in the team come the next world cup.

I love the way he says he really wants to get back in the England team and then you find out at the end of the report that he said it on the photoshoot of some sarong campaign for feminine males or on his latest perfume shoot (i had to laugh at that one for ages).

 

Ask him if he would give up all the glamour to play for England again if that was the only option and you'll get the real answer from Beckham.
