First Game/Best Memory

First game was Carshalton at home on the 3rd March 2001, we won 3-0, and Jimmy, Scott Lindsay and Matt Lee scored. I sat in the main stand.

Best memory has to be one of the following...

Bedford!

Huddersfield (more for the experience of the away game than the game itself)

Halifax on the last day of the 02/03 season

Dagenham at the end of 03-04? When we won 4-0? And Jacko was there and gave the biggest smile ever when we started singing 'We want our Jimmy back'

And I'm sure there'll be another one or two to add to the collection come the end of this season!

First game was against Chelmsford about 1971, we lost.

Best memories, for years I played hockey on Saturdays so I only got to go to midweek matches which is probably why most of my memories seem to be of Tuesday night cup replays, Barnet being a standout one.

In recent years I think going to Hartsdown for the KSC final with the Rymans already won and spanking Margate 5:0.

First game was the second replay against marlow town at home in '95. we won either 4-0 or 4-1, was a great night. I think I can remember Dave Powell scoring and Mark Munday? Then I was hooked and haven't really missed a home game since, until recently due to university/egg chasing.

The best moments I have experienced are the Villa game and singing 'boring boring Villa' and that particualr song getting a mention on five live. The win at Bedford to capture the title, the game at Huddersfield with getting an escourt through the town and skipping red lights.

I was at both legs for Weymouth in the final...we arrived late for the kick off at Weymouth as, I recall, the coach driver had difficulty in getting us out of the bar, wherever we stopped on the way down !! Unless time has clouded my memory ? Did any other readers go on the coach to Weymouth for that one ? I remember stopping for fish & chips on the way home in South West London somewhere ( pre M25 !!)

I came back on the coach but went on the train with a couple of others whom the coach had also forgotton to pick up. I remenber that it was £10 for a single or £11 for a return.

Chips were normally purchased down the Old kent Road, but I can't remember whether this one was diferent.

My first match was a KFC match against Dover in 1963 which we lost 3-0

Wasn't the Old Kent Road. Chiswick or somewhere like that seems to ring a bell. I remember the first chippy we went to was closed, so we had to ask a local where there nearest one was, which resulted in us legging it around whichever town we were in !! I am sure the alcohol played some part in all this !!

Cheers,

First game was 98/99 Season! I think ! Have no idea which game though... I went after I won a shirt after a FITC course... wasnt really interested at first, just went to be social with my mates (I got in with a free youth card majig)... But then I quit and I had to start paying which is when it began to get serious.. . am now addicted!

Best memory... My first away game... Bedford away. Will always remember when the guy hit the bar infront of an open goal from 12 or so yards out, and remember in the bar afterwards when the Table on Ceefax refreshed and the whole bar errupted into a massive roar...Oh yeh and their keeper ate smarties we through on the floor for him!

Happy Days!

The first time I attended a Fleet game was in 1997 but I cannot recall that exact date or the opponents. Been to some great games over the years, but the two best memories for me have to be being at Bedford the day we won the Ryman League and then the whipping we gave Margate in the Kent Senior Cup Final a week or so later!!!!!

:-)

Not first game, but first real memory, playing Wimbledon at home on a wet Tuesday night and winning after they had drawn against the mighty Leeds United in the FA Cup the previous Saturday, in fact their keeper, was is Dickie Guy? had saved a penalty from Peter Lorimar. Enjoyed every minute since...

I seem to remember first game was against Romford in early 70's. On checking the archive section on the website it was indeed 30/1/1970. Lost 2-3 in the FAT.(not being picky, but it has the venue down as J when I think it should be H !!)

Best memory for me was the day out to Bedford when we clinched the Ryman Title !

Was at the FAT game in 1970 too...Not so fond memories of the tear ups with the Gravesend/Charlton fans during and after the game. Remember having to run the gauntlet to Northfleet station, having gone to Gravesend station on the way down...via the ferry.

..and sorry to sound really ancient, but my first ever Romford game was at home to Gravesend in March 1961..Ted Ditchburn in goal for Romford......nurse, I've fallen out of bed again.

My first fleet game was in the late 80's when I was at school. I can't remember who we played or who won.

I came again in the early 90s and again can't remember who we played or who won.

Probably my most memorable match was the FA cup game that we won against Exeter on penalties on a freezing cold October night in 2003

My first game was in the great cup run of 1963. I’d like to think it was the Sunderland game but I was seven so the memories are a bit blurred. I can remember being terrified by the crowds and noise. Started going regularly about four years later when Mum let me go with some older mates (sorry Dave). This thread has reminded me of some of the many great memories that the Fleet have given me in the last 40 years.

The Southern League Cup Final probably stands out as the best, not just because of the game, but the celebrations afterwards in the bar. I remember the old SL Cup seemed huge and drinking champagne out of it was a messy business.

I hope the younger and more recently recruited Fleet fans get the chance to experience their own ‘Villa’ match one day. Every non league fan deserves that kind of day at least once. Unforgettable.

The Orient game was another great day, memorable as much for the fans as for the game. The away end at Brisbane Road a sea of red and white, non stop singing for 2 hours in the pouring rain and a Portway wonder goal.

Just a thought. Like most fans I would love to see us move to a new stadium and think it’s the only way the club can go forward from where we are now. If that happens I will have to add another game to my most memorable list because a big part of my 40 year love affair with The Fleet revolves around the crumbling, outdated dinosaur that we all call home. The last ever game at Stonebridge Road will indeed be memorable

I can see where your'e coming from Ronnie, for me I will make a real effort to be there for that last game no matter what, ( that's if a new stadium becomes a reality of course)

As I lived in Taunton Road for the first 17 years of my life, ( in full view of the ground) I can always remember hearing the PA and the tune that the team used to run out

to, it was a fox hunting tune or something, iv'e completely forgotten the name, so even before I became a Fleet supporter I was very aware of the club etc.

First game was the 88-89 home trophy game against Kettering. Stood on the halfway line with all the same people that i stand with now (Chas was young then!)

apart from the obvious my standout game was when we beat ouur nemesis Sittingbourne 2-0 in the FA cup with Ullathornes screamer from the right side of the box. I had just lost my job and that cheered me up no end, Especially after we had to endure Neil Emblen telling everyone how he would deal with Portway no poblems!

Also Sudbury away when we lost but went on to win the Beazer homes southern league a couple of weeks later - just for the pratt chanting 'sudbureeee' every two minutes! I think he inspired a whole edition of 'No idea' all on his own

also Sittingbourne away on new years day when the ref abandoned it for fog just as we scored our second, which i watched standing on the pitch about a yard from the touchline. I think we lost the replay and they won the title.

sorry to ramble - i will have my medication now nurse

Greetings Stu M , Reevsie and chums. Reevsie, how is the decorating coming along.

Deeply entrenched in managing Winchester U16 team these days so haven't escaped to San Stonebridgeo.

We're through to the last 32 of the Hants Cup and riding high in the City of Southampton Youth League so getting my football kicks.

My first Fleet game was 74-75, we beat Hillingdon 3-1 with Woolfie and Colin Norman scoring. We got promoted at the end of the season and had a fiery game against Ramsgate when the ( later ) legendary Peter Osborne got sent off for them.

Best games, well the SLC Final v Weymouth; the two cup games against Wimbledon -during the first Lee Smelt saved both shots from a twice taken penalty; Orient and Villa away and Bedford.

And how about the 1-0 defeat to Kings Lynn when our goalie went off and we kept rotating keepers, even wee Willie O'Sullivan having a go between the posts. We lost 1-0 but what a great afternoons entertainment.

See you all soon !
