First Game/Best Memory

Something a little light hearted. What was everyones first game seen and what game sticks in the memory. Me personally, my first game was 1973 v Basingstoke (tues night I think), single sheet A5 programme. Best memory has to be the Southern League Cup Final V Weymouth 78? Stood there for 90 mins in Plough end with no goals two trips to the loo and two goals, missed both. Happy Days...

Up the Fleet!!!

First game I remember anyway was Fleet 3-0 Bury Town, top of the table clash midway through the 1988-89 promotion season. Went to the next couple of games, beating Bognor Regis and Bishop's Stortford as part of that memorable trophy run past Barnet and Kettering, and I was hooked!

Best memory: toss up between beating Cinderford knowing we were going to Villa, and winning the Ryman League at Bedford.

I seem to remember first game was against Romford in early 70's. On checking the archive section on the website it was indeed 30/1/1970. Lost 2-3 in the FAT.(not being picky, but it has the venue down as J when I think it should be H !!)

I was at both legs for Weymouth in the final...we arrived late for the kick off at Weymouth as, I recall, the coach driver had difficulty in getting us out of the bar, wherever we stopped on the way down !! Unless time has clouded my memory ? Did any other readers go on the coach to Weymouth for that one ? I remember stopping for fish & chips on the way home in South West London somewhere ( pre M25 !!)

Best memory for me was the day out to Bedford when we clinched the Ryman Title !

Cheers,

My first game was in 2003, it was against Tamworth. I was only meant to come and do some video and take some picture, as my nephew was a mascot. What stuck in my mind was the huge defender in the Tamworth lineup, he must have had to wear two shirts sewn together, he was huge. I eneded up staying for the game and have never looked back since.

I did use to go to Stonebridge road in the 70's, but at the age of 6, I always found something else at the ground to do. All those wasted years, without knowing what I was missing.

I came back on the coach but went on the train with a couple of others whom the coach had also forgotton to pick up. I remenber that it was £10 for a single or £11 for a return.

Chips were normally purchased down the Old kent Road, but I can't remember whether this one was diferent.

My first match was a KFC match against Dover in 1963 which we lost 3-0

First game Villa. Also went to Worcester at home the same season, we won 2-0. Following that I was at Hendon at home in our first home Ryman game in 97, we won 4-0. Following that I went to the first home game back in the conference in 2003, we lost 2-1 to Daggers.

Saturday will be my 93rd ever game but 70th consecutively.

EDIT: Looking at the Website I don't think it was Worcester, it might have been VS Rugby. We definitly won 2-0.

The first game I went to was a home game in the Nationwide Conference against Leigh RMI in 2002. We lost (can't remember the score), but Che Stadhart scored a penalty up the Plough End. There was also the 1-0 win over Halifax in the last game of our first Conference season, Liam Hatch scoring a great goal and pitch invasion after the match!!

My best memory (hard one to think of, really)... was probably our 6-0 demolition over Morecambe in the 2003-04 season. Notts County FA Cup tie live on Sky was all a good memory. There was also the 1-0 win over Halifax in the last game of our first Conference season, Liam Hatch scoring a great goal and pitch invasion after the match!!

If you want to go into the worst memory, it was probably losing Andy Ford after the 1-0 home loss to Stevenage Borough in the GLS League Cup and losing 3-1 away to Boreham Wood in the FA Trophy 2nd round last season, despite seeing, what I think was, Charlie MacDonald's best ever goal he has scored for Gravesend.

First one I remember was away to Sudbury with my uncle on the coach - think we won - Portway defo scored - may have been 2-1. Other memory i have is when my uncle died at the Stonebridge road end of ground whilst watching Cinderford replay? or something like that!? Game in the cup before Villa - which he would have loved!! oh well eh??!! Memories!!

First game attended was during the 1962/63 FA Cup run when the 'Fleet beat the mighty Exeter City (funny how things don't really change that much?) 3-2.

Worst memory was being stuck on a Horlocks supporters coach travelling to see the 'Fleet play March Town in the FA Trophy. The coach driver was taking the most bizarre route, when Big Al Fothergill decided it was time to open one of the sky light windows only managing to push the glass out completely. The driver then refused to go any further until it was repaired. MIssed the game and was stuck in the Spittlefields Market area of East London for an eternity.

Or the FA cup game away to Wimbledon at the old Plough Lane ground, can't remember the year, when Pat Brady was sent off and the whole team walked off in protest, game ultimately finished 4-1 to Wimbledon.

Up there amongst the many best memories, was attending the FA Cup game at Villa Park. Great day out despite the result, team did the club proud and great publicity for the club. From my memory I believe that over 50 coaches travelled to Birmingham that day, where are all those supporters today?

My first match was a 1-1 home draw with Harlow Town in 1991/1992 (far too young then to really appreciate what was going on on the pitch), although regular attendance at home matches didn't commence until the tail end of the following season.

Best memory, in that time frame, and given that I wasn't really old enough to appreciate the occasion fully at Villa, has to be Bedford.

First memory is the 1-1 draw with Sunderland 62/63, I was behind the Swanscombe end goal when Skingley bundled the equaliser over, and if my memory serves me (and it probably doesn't) was this the game where Shirley Bassey came onto the pitch to kick the ball as a publicity stunt or is this another game?

I was on the Weymouth trip Hirsty, and I recall it took bloody ages and we were late,

my mate and I were busting to take a leak, and as we were late anyway we stuck it out for fear of being lynched by everyone on the coach if we requested a loo break!!

When we arrived the game had started, but all we needed was a toilet block which was situated on the far side of the ground from where we'd come in!! groan!!
