In fifty years of watching non-league football I have never seen two such marvellous Cup-ties. For endeavour, courage, commitment, pride, passion, skills and thrills these two matches were world-beaters. Of course I am proud and pleased that the Wings put one over on the Essex boys - especially with a gutsy response to a penalty goal (two great strikes in the last few minutes). But amidst all the triumphalism, I must admit to feeling gutted for the Hornchurch players and, without being patronising, I had to stand and applaud them for their part in such a great spectacle. They frightened the lives out of us. And when one of their directors wished us luck in the next round, he meant it. A genuine bloke.
