its beyond me how you can put 'Man U' and 'electric atmosphere' in the same sentence. Tis clearly you who are misguided my friend. (just ask fergy)

....and as for stating you've had to put up with jealous snipes; can I just thank you for proving my point. What have you got / acheived/ expereinced over and above any other non league club ? sweet FA.

...you're entitled to love your club. We are all guilty of that.

if a div 1, div 2, div 3 or non league side visited upton park for a meaningless game or maybe coca cola cup i may agree.

but if its the FA cup i dont think so.

FA cup is just as important to welling at this stage as it is to west ham in the 3rd round. think about that LOS

Smallsy, I agree - I wasn't debating the importance to welling. I have been home and away with WHU for many many a 3rd round cup tie. All I am saying is that when you're up against a smaller club the atmosphere tends to be less energetic. I can remember queueing up all night long outside UP(stright off the away bus from Man City) to get tickets for 3rd round Kidderminster away. The home fans were estatic they'd drawn a top league club - yet the WHU fans weren't aligned in mindset, probably too nervous of the potential for a slip up....but thats just 1 example. I've seen it loads.

fair point LOS. maybe the welling fans were nervous and that is testament to the hornchurch performance over 2 games.

absolutely right they were nervous, and they had good cause to be - Hx were almost there by all accounts, unlucky. You guys had nothing to loose so of course its party time - they had everything to loose, and I dont know of too many folk that party hard when they're crapping it.

los - totally understand your viewpoint but you weren't there mate.

it wasn't even as if they were nervous. they were totally silent.

i'd be embarrassed to be a welling fan. they were pants.

edit - of course i meant welling. worthing knocked us out last year...

Enfield, Bishop Auckland, Finchley, Wimbledon, Canvey, Worthing and so many more have written glorious pages in to the non-league history book.

Some have faded away, sorry most have faded away and others unsung at present will follow.

But is there ever a greater sensation than beating or matching a league side especially when the facts are that most will at best achieve Conference level or join the rest of the fade-always when the money dries up.

When its your turn enjoy.

I will never forget Enfield's FA Cup run back in the 80s when we knocked out Port Vale in front of a capacity crowd of around 8000 at Southbury Road and then held Barnsley to a 1-1 draw away in the fourth round only to lose the replay in front of 33,000 at White Hart Lane. Oh happy days!

Played at Southbury for a season or two but missed out in the great battles with the Auckland. great atmosphere for a crap ground and as you say oh happy days.

Unlucky Urchins. Welling are a decent side with some good players. Can certainly see them making the play offs and maybe getting into the Conference next season so certainly no disgrace in losing to them.

Good luck Saturday.
