Parent referee short course!!

Parent lino short course!!

Role of parent, pick your kid up, watch him play occassionally, do not threaten to bash the manager/ref/lino, pay your f^ckin subs, help with the nets, turn up to see him get his medal, wash the kit, phone up before 10.30 sunday morning to say he cant make the 11.00 kick off because you have decided to go to his F^CKING aunties, do not assume he will be playing for arsenal when he is 17, put him to bed before 2.30 in the morning the day before a game, send him training with a drink, a hat in august, more than £1 will help at an all day tournament, dress him properly!!

Seriously the amount of times a 10 year old turns up in mid February with totally inappropriate wear and no dry change!

I could write a modular course, or even a book "the thickest f^cking parents in the world".

i coach an under 12s team, and a few weeks back we had a 15 year old ref who was shocking. as you do you ask questions during the game, till he gave a pen for fu ck all and one of the parents doing what he does best started giving the ref a bit of mouth till the ref's DAD took it in to his own hands and hit my parent a few times leaving them both on the floor going at it, me and one other pulled my parent of and it took 5 guys to hold the ref's dad back. at which the ref called the game off and wrote a letter to the fa, as did me and the other teams gaffer. it came to court in chelmo at which we was fined 400 pound for not controling the parent and warned of are future actions. BUT fu ck all happened to the ref or his dad after two letters of complaint from two managers. but my friends it gets better we was at home yesterday and there i am having a chat with a few parents 10 mins before kick off and the little sh it walks past with his dad with nothing said, so i call the kids in for the team talk and guess who walks over... and yes he is are ref for the day. i rang the league and they told me to get on with it so i did. and he was sh it the whole game at which i gave him his money at the end of the game and got on with my sunday afternoon. luckily the parent was not there this game but what happens if he was, why would the league even think about giving him are game to ref only 4 weeks after that!!!

So it is fine for you to give officials grief from the line. According to you that is acceptable is it. Although his parent was bang out of order perhaps it was a culmination of weeks of the attitude that you are showing that wore him down.

I intepreted that. In my experience asking questions involve grief !

It isn't "Excuse me ref why did you give that" it is more along the lines of "Cant beleive you have given that ref"

i never said i asked questions aimed at him, i meant i asked questions of his ability. as a coach/manager or player there will always be stuff shouted at the ref what ever level/age you play at.

Apologies for misunderstanding you.

Not if the coach has the will to prevent it and it is down to the coaches of youth teams to prevent it so that we can rid the game of this nonsense.

are you a ref???

i understand what you are saying but i dont think any coach will ever be able to staop all the parents from these actions! its a way of football and at any level you will get it!

Yes and I also coach a youth side.

It needs to stop and it can be stopped. It will not be easy but I am afraid it is down to us guys to breed it through our players and parents. All my parents are told that they must not question the ref and that if they do then they will not be welcome at the games. We had a poor ref the other week, we won by the way, and some of his decisions were poor. At no time did my parents question anything so hopefully I have started to get through. Also all my players go and shake the refs hand at the end of the game. We should make all teams do this.

i agree bad ref or a good ref i get players to shake hands. but i think parents getting involved is always going to play a part.

how old is your team?

My team is U8 and there is where we have to teach both players and parents. They manage it in Rugby so why not in football. I dont accept the "It is part of the game" nonsense. Personally I would like to see the 10 yard rule intorduced and no limit imposed on how many times you can move the ball.

Wrong!

I am at times both or all three ref, coach and parent.

I believe it is my right/duty to question a referee if I believe he has got something wrong!!

Always polite and always with respect, but if a referee is out there making decisions, he is a participant in the game.

It is important that we at times exchange opinions with all participants, I also inform the referee when he has made a very good decision as is my right/duty!!

Do not distance referees from the game!!

Mind you I witnessed a situation in Grays when my son first qualified a fight broke out on the pitch and one of the adults was aggressive to my son, I was the model of restraint, I did however point out if he did it again, he would require a straw to eat his next meal!!

We must protect referees but they enjoy a bit of banter as well!!
