Eh? Firstly, I don't know whether Ben is 'below average on the squad we have', simply as I haven't seen him play in the last few weeks, and even if I had, I don't know anything about football so I couldn't judge t'lad. That's the primary reason that I'm not paid four million a year to manage the Mighty Saints.

Secondly, although I don't know anything about football, I do know that Ben Walshe plays wide on the left of midfield.

In that role at the moment we have, 21 year old Warren McBean, signed from Mighty Braintree Town of the Essex Senior League or whatever it is* last Friday, and err.. errr.. ummmn... it'll come to me in a minute.... Hmmmnnnn. Lee Clarke when he has to be played out of his preferred position and err... err... ummnn .. 19 year old Nathan 'Homer' Simpson, signed from Mighty Bromley of the Cherry Red Records Kent Senior League or whatever it is* two weeks ago.

So. Is that what you had in mind when you referred to 'enough cover'?

[* The Conference South and the Ryman Premier League respectively, actually. I did know, I just put those Leagues in for dramatic effect.]

Alexis 'Jack' Nicholas was playing in centre midfield, but in front of Tom Davis, who was playing deep in front of the back four. In his previous couple of games "Jack" had played the deeper centre midfield role, the position that I gather he played at Brighton. It's a little bit of a 'diamond four' midfield but let's not get too technical

Clearly, Colin wanted Tom and "Jack" to swap places.

One thing's for sure, MarkCol, "Jack" wasn't playing wide on the left.

I had a brief word with Ben after the game on Saturday and he has definitely gone down a dress size or three since the end of last season. I said that I would act for him for 120% of his wages but he could keep the inrtellectual property rights, but he just smiled.

As with all these things, let's wait and see what Colin has in mind before another Ferrari is pulled out of the car pool.

Oops, my turn to say sorry, Mark. I didn't see yours.

If he is fit, he would make my starting line-up wide on the left, yes. The jury is still out on "Homer" and err.. err.. Warren 'Wazza' McBean for me.

Super sweet left foot, t'lad.

Think it might be time to ask Ian W for that women's only forum. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

And was he good enough at Gravesend ...no I thought so.

He was the season he played for us, he was probably one of the top five players that season. Surprisingly, though, he wasn't retained but there were more than a handful of our fans that found that surprising.

He wouldn't be good enough now, true, but then we've moved on a bit. As a squad member in a team that are - all due respect - still consolidating and establishing themselves in the Conference, then I think he's worth a punt.

would like to see where gravesend are at the end of the season, you might be fourth at the moment but i wouldn't get carried away thinking you are an established conference club coz you are not,i have seen you play this season and you were not very impressive, what you are is in a false position!

I'm not getting carried away, where did I say that? And we are an established Conference club in the context of what I was saying, ie. that St Albans are still in their first season and finding their feet as any newly promoted club has to unless they're a Grays or a Weymouth, while we're not going down this season, making it five years of Conference football. That's pretty established in my book, maybe not in yours, but then you do seem to have a problem with us.
