This is what I sent:-

"The last time Welling visited the Stadium they thumped a makeshift

Hornchurch side by 5-0 when they were both Conference South sides. Now the distance between them is two divisions but not in terms of playing ability.

Welling made a very strong start and won a string of corners in the first 15 minutes. An Ellis Green volley from 20 yards deflected off Hornchurch’s Jim McFarlane and pinged off the crossbar, but the visitors found the net in the 20th minute when Hornchurch’s Ronnie Fletcher managed to flick a corner into his own net from the near post, the ball just sneaking over the line before it was cleared. The goal came at a time when Hornchurch were beginning to make more of an impact in the Welling half, but it did not faze them.

Welling took the lead into the break but the home side restarted re-invigorated and bagged the equaliser 5 minutes in when following a

strong surge forward Mark Janney squeezed the ball past Welling keeper

Jamie Turner from close range. As time went on the game became more end to end clearly signifying a replay was not in either side’s plans.

Hornchurch’s Mark Janney cleared off the line and long range shots from Matt Bodkin caused palpitations in the home crowd. Hornchurch’s Ainsley Gasper nearly nicked the tie right at the end when a low shot from the corner of the area went marginally wide.

A great game which no-one wanted to end. Let’s hope for more of the same on Wednesday night."
