Nice to see things go our way for change <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Hackim's goal - what a cracker!

The two new boys looked good on the day. Benyon in particular was quite a handful for York's defence.

Also liked Simpson at fullback.

Grays, Crawley, Rushden and Stafford upcoming - come on you Saints <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/excited.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/excited.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/excited.gif" alt="" />

The Lord certainly seems to have an eye for a player, Husnu excepted. Batt is a tremendous asset, as is Nicolas. Simpson looks really composed at left-back. Jackman has raw talent that should be given more exposure, and McBean and Benyon both showed why they are comfortable at this level.

Could be a very tricky selection for Saturday if several of the regulars are fit again.

Rob

What about all the players he signed in the summer and then let go (Norris, Sozzo, etc)? Seems a bit hit and miss to me but glad to hear that Batt is finally doing it. As for Simpson, NLP only gave him 5 and suggested he had a bit of a tough time on Saturday. When is Flynn back? And how close to fitness is Scott Cousins?

Cheers

Rob

Hi Midweeksaint.

Without trying to close down comment, let's not dwell on the players that have come and gone. [Norris was signed only 4 weeks ago, incidentally, and to me showed a lot of promise. It would seem that he wanted first team football, and good luck to him at Kings Lynn.]

Damian 'Damo' 'Batty' Batt looked a quality player from the start for me and t'lad was just behind Paul 'Hakkers' Hakim for my MotM on Saturday.

Nathan 'Homer' Simpson did well enough for me on Saturday and is another player who shows promise. He was up against a very good gorilla on Saturday and, for me, was guilty of giving the guy too much space on occasion. He'll learn, however, and I would have given him a 7.

Lee 'Lee' Flynn is due to be available this Saturday. Scott 'Scottie' Cousins is contuinuing to suffer some discomfort, I gather. A few more weeks before he is able to have a run-out in our Reserves yet, I would guess.

I don't know anything about football.

In the list of sins that thou shalt not commit, Mws, any hint of a suggestion of criticism directed at the Greatest Ever Manager in the Whole History of The Mighty Saints ever, is viewed as more grievous than the minor misdemeanor of suggesting that there might be a soupcon of room for improvement in any level of matchday organisation, in certain quarters.

Me? I always was a bit of a rebel.

Just one more point about players, Mws. You may have noticed that Harding came on here late on Friday, and in a tone suggesting that he might, with modest reluctance, be prepared to be put forward for the prestigeous honour of 'Clubman of the Year 2006/07', announced that he had rushed to the aid of the Mighty Saints in their hour of need by releasing Warren McBean from Braintree Town that day.

Well fair play to him from me for his assistance, but just one small thing before the votes [for the prestigeous post etc.] are cast. Perhaps there were two Warren McBeans at The Mighty Iron. There was certainly one who was released from Cressing Road at the beginning of October with a stream of invective from George Borg in the local rag to send him on his way. Then there was the one who Harding released on Friday when rushing to the our aid.

"George", said Harding on the dog and bone to his Manager at lunchtime on Friday, "I've decided to come to the aid of my old friends at St Albans City by releasing Warren McBean so that they can field a full side witout recourse to the Verulam School U. 14 'B' side in their Conference Nationale match with York City. No, don't interrupt, George. I have fond feelings for the Hertfordshire side since I saved 'em from financial ruin all those years ago before the 'Hate Mob forced me out' and you'll just have to find someone else to make up the numbers against whoever we are playing tomorrow. Whats that George? What do you mean you threw him out two weeks ago? No, not that one. The other one."

That's about right. The situation seemed pretty desperate on Friday. Always happy to help old friends. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/achso.gif" alt="" />

'Clubman of the Year 2006/07' - now your talking!

Hi Rob

I think that with the number of players 'we' have signed over the past few weeks, 'we're' bound to find a good'un eventually. My spies tell me that Benyon looks special (at this level) so let's hope the one month loan can be extended. But I do think there is an element of panic in the current policy which is why disasters like Husnu occur. I know that there has been a horrific run of injuries which means we have had to sign, sign, sign, but let's hope we've seen the end of it now.

AFF

Are you implying sins are occuring in my musings? As I've said before, I don't know anyone at the club - I am the faceless man on the terrace (sometimes). I would like to be a little more forthright in my opinion at times but I am concious of the fact that what I write is printed in St Albans' programme so I have to be a little careful lest they choose not to use it one week.

Cheers
