Is this a contentious question?

[color:"blue"]One area of yesterday's game I'd like your views on. The PBT 'keeper was knocked out and the Ref let the physio & Manager take a long time to help him recover. If he'd been an outfield player, he'd have been taken off as soon as he'd recovered to his feet, whereas the Ref waited until he was confident enough to carry on. Was this influenced by the fact that it is a specialist position? Or even more contentious - that PBT didn't have a sub keeper on the bench & didn't want to put a makeshift keeper on for the five-ten remaining minutes of the half?

I'm not suggesting that the delay cost us the match ( we should have peppered their goal with shots for the rest of the 1st half, as the keeper didn't really know where he was). I am just asking if the keeper & PBT were over-protected in this particular case.

I did think at the time that it was risky to the keper for him to continue. It looked to me as if he was being checked for concussion - when we was stood up apparently staring into the eyes of the physio. In the event, he seemed to be OK. So perhaps because it was so close to half time when they could have another look at him, it was OK. And you can imagine him trying to convince everyone that he was OK to continue.

As for a sub keeper, as far as I'm aware there is noting in the rules that says you have to have a keeper on the bench so if you haven't, you would try for as long as possible to keep the one you have got, on the pitch.

Okay. First of all the problem was that his tooth had penetrated into the back of his lip and he was in an awful lot of pain. He wasn't concussed but it is always best to check these things out when there has been a head injury just to be on the safe side.

The Margate Club Doctor looked at him at half time and declared that the wound would need stitches but that it was at least a 30 minute job and couldn't be done at the ground. The Doctor gave the okay for him to play on in the second half and get the stitches done in hospital afterwards.

Had he needed to come off, both our No. 3 and No. 4 have played in goal many times before and are both competent at it, hence the fact we didn't name a sub 'keeper. In fact, our No. 4 played in goal for the last half hour of our Preliminary Round Replay at Waltham Abbey and kept a clean sheet in that time.

As a more general point, it is accepted as common sense to give a goalkeeper as much time as possible for treatment as it is not practical to take them off the field for treatment. It would probably waste as much time, if not more, for an outfield player to change shirt and put gloves on and then change back again when the 'keeper is fit to resume.

Thanks PBTFC.

Always nice to know facts.

Not there yesterday so not suffering as much as everyone else, but still will be Xmas before i get over this defeat.

I have not got over us losing 6-1 to Heybridge yet

Wish you well in next round.

Whilst we let ourselves down badly on the pitch, i hope you found us a nice club and supporters to visit, and that the sendings off did not mar our reputation with you.

24 hours later, you can listen to Wellsies-always superb- and better than R5Live- radio commentary.

It will make you swell with pride i guess and become a collector's piece at PBFC.

Excuse me if i don't-i can't stand the unbelievable pain

I was as an exile not there either.

I am still worried over team spirit. Trotty is very young and i fear gets little respect from the players. His own form is poor very poor it takes a lot to manage a team. I was always dubious about player managers. How many of these have worked in time.

Where do we go from here. We're slipping down the table and there are clearly no easy games these days. Where will our next win come from. If ever we neaded a new start surely it's at Billericay cos thats dann'ys old team. Is it not Trotties too.

i fear our journeymen players are not up to the challenge!! We'll see

In fairness to our journeymen players, that may not be true.

Indeed, it was our goodselves as supporters who were saying last season and indeed recently, how much Protheroe gives to the cause.

Add into that Skinner, our best player in Pinnock,JJ who everyone rates, and it appears the more experienced players are giving their all.

I think the players do want to succeed for MFC.

I also think we will improve as winter comes, and finish 7th/8th as i predicted.

Its just so disappointing going out of FA Cup to a lower team yet again as you say Geoff.

How long in your estimation were the physio etc, treating the keeper and, do you think the 3 minutes the ref added on was adequate and took into account other incidents, also the time wasting tactics of Potters Bar.

According to my stopwatch, the referee added just over five minutes in each half which I think was just about right. Treatment to our 'keeper in the first half took 4-5 minutes and the majority of the delay in the second half came from the two sendings off.

I personally felt we didn't try to waste enough time towards the end. Other sides do that job much more professionally than we did.

I think he was knocked out as he was motionless on the floor for about 2 minutes and he said to your physio that he right eye was all blured and he found it difficult to walk in a straight line and was coming out of position an awful lot. Also your physio was told by i think it was your assistant manager to keep talking to him, that says to me he was concussed.

Question

The rules state if a player is injured and treated on the pitch, that he must leave the field of play, and return from the centre line when allowed to by the offical, does this rule say anywhere, that goal keepers are exempt from this rule?

Agreed. I commented in the recorded commentary about how PBT were still coming forward late in the game. In my view, exactly the right tactics.
